What 4-year colleges or universities in the USA try to meet the full financial need of international undergraduate students?

You have to check them one by one. after getting some general info from the international students forum here. Even then you have to double check because things change from year to year.

There are only a few schools in this country that guarantee to meet the full need of any of its students, like the prime fare, which are the first year US citizen/perm resident students. Most all schools try to meet the full financial need of their students but they just don’t. And sometimes you will get the best deal from one of those schools if they happen to pick you as one of those whose need they will fully meet.

Because international students need to fill out a financial form for a student visa and cannot enter the country without verified funds available for their support for the year including the costs of the school, colleges do tend to try to come up with a respectable package for internationals if they accept them. Otherwise they just turn them down. Not all schools, but those who are NOT need blind in admissions to Internationals do seem to make that effort if they accept the student.

What’s important is to know which schools have NO aid or merit money for internationals so you can cross them off your list. No sense applying for what you have zero chance of getting. But otherwise, you may well have a better chance at a school that does not guarantee anything but leaves it open. The ones with the guarantees have a line miles long for those who are trying to get the goodies which brings the chances of getting anything very, very low. Finding a school where the competition is not so stiff might give YOU a better chance of getting anything.

There are any number of colleges and universities that offer only one big financial aid package to an international student each year, but if you happen to be the student who gets that package, well, you win. However, in order to identify those places, you do have to do the research yourself. What each college and university offers can change from one year to the next. b@r!um who often posts in the International Students Forum, has written that she worked through a list of 300 colleges and universities here in order to identify the ones most likely to offer her the aid that she needed. If indeed you wish to study here, you need to be prepared to do the same.

There are some colleges that offer multiple scholarships per year to international students, but they have to be in the top 1% or have an extraordinary life story in order to qualify. Many of those colleges appear to be liberal arts colleges that do not currently attract many international students and are trying to become more diverse. They know that attracting an initial set of satisfied students from a country will help to attract more full pay students from that country in the future. I know of one small college that probably would have closed its doors if they had not attracted so many students from Saudi Arabia.

Most US universities look at international students as cash cows who get charged full sticker price, to subsidize the US students.
