What schools would you apply to?

unweight Gpa:
Freshman year: 3.75
Sophomore year: 3.55
Junior year: 3.8
Fist semester senior year: 4.0

Sat:
Highest in one sitting: CR-800 W-770 M-690
Super scored: CR-800 W-800 M-730
I hate math.

Extra curriculars:

Didn’t mean to post that yet.

Extra curriculars:
Outdoor leadership- a club that goes on backpacking trips and such
Supervised independent study in US History- I read about eleven history books and wrote essays on subjects they covered.
Independent study in European history- Again, I read books and reacted to them in essays. My supervisor for both independent studies will write a very strong recommendation for me.
Intensive latin program- I spent eight weeks Studying latin. I can actually sort of speak it now.
Volunteer work at a well known museum- I served as a docent on the weekends leading tours.
Rowing- a beginner class for one year. (I know it’s pretty much worthless)
Tennis- Played for two years; wasn’t any good.

Other things:
I got a c in an art class in Junior year. That will probably hurt me.
My letters will be very strong.
My family moves a lot and I’ve gone to three different high schools. In my sophomore year, my school was a bad fit for me and I was unmotivated. I don’t have a good excuse for the grade dip.

I know my ECs and GPA are weak, but do you think I have a chance?

At getting into a decent school?

Wow I’m bad at posting in forums.

What kind of school do you consider “decent?” Also, where have you been looking, what region of the country would you like to be in, what area of study are you interested in, what has been your high school course load, what size/type of college do you want to go to?

Your SATs are strong. Are you planning on taking Subject Tests and have you taken APs?

As it is, here are a few examples of schools I’d look at:

Tufts University
UVA
Bowdoin College
Boston College
Union College (safety)

Sat II: us history: 770 latin: 750

AP: us history: 5 euro history: 5
Both were taken after the independent studies.

The school I did my last two years at is not known for demanding academics, but I did take the most challenging courses available to me.

I’ll definitely major in history.

I’m mostly asking to get a gauge of how strong my application is. I don’t really have a definition for “decent.”

I prefer a school in the south. Would UVA be a reach for me? Is Vanderbilt out of the question?

Thanks to prep15 and anyone else who takes the time to reply.

Tufts
Boston
Union
Trinity
and Dartmouth or Brown as REACH

Good luck :)

Those are fantastic SAT scores. The rest of your application is pretty good as well. It’s hard to recommend schools since I don’t know what you are interested in or want to do for a living. If I had to take a guess, I’d recommend schools along the lines of less competitive Ivy leagues or the better public schools. Cornell, Northwestern, etc. As far as Southern schools, I don’t know too much. I think you could go to UVA without a problem.
Help me out? :wink: <a href=“Should I transfer? - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums”>Should I transfer? - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums;

UVA is one of the little ivies, and it’s always a bit of a reach if you’re out of state. But I think you’d be a strong candidate and there and probably at Vanderbilt as well.

^I meant public, not little. Sorry!

If you’re looking for schools in the south, Vanderbilt, UVA, and Emory might be good options.

Schools in the South to look at:

Vanderbilt
Duke
UVA
UNC
Emory
Rice
Miami
Tulane
Texas
Richmond
Wake Forest
Davidson
Washington & Lee
Alabama
South Carolina

I looked at almost every school on this list, so feel free to ask me any questions you have about them.
