What schools would you recommend my cousin to consider?

He’s a junior right now, and i sympathize having just gone through (been mutilated by?) the college admission process. He wants to study either engineering or economics at this point, he seems to oscillate. math and science excites him more i think. these are his stats:

3.2 gpa
this year he took ap us history, next year he’ll take bc calculus, ap statistics, ap chemistry and ap us govt. the rest are honors courses. he’s also doing independent study in physics, and already got an 800 on his sat II physics. He also got an 800 on sat II math. he has a 2190 sat I, this is the breakdown:
800 math
680 critical reading
710 writing

he does crew, math team, and volunteers at an elementary school.

so far his favorite reach schools seem to be Carnegie Mellon and Cornell. I also suggested Michigan, Mcgill, NYU, RPI, Tufts, Brandeis, Harvey Mudd, Utoronto, Urochester.

Would you say I’m naming appropriate schools for him? what other recommendations do you have? (As far as safeties go, he’s counting on Umass honors college which I think is sensible, so please do not name safeties)

Um i suggests for him to apply to all the university as possible as he can, just to open his options. But I would recommed UC berkley, UCLA, and UCSD…well I know UCSD is great in the science, and i think UCLA n berkley in enginering.

His GPA seems a little low for schools like CMU, Cornell, Tufts.
