What score do I really need?

I’m going for 2100 minimum, but 2200 seems more like something I should or even need to get. I’m giving a wide range of colleges, but their minimum SAT scores don’t help because many times colleges can look down upon minimums.

Duke
Washington University
Possibly Harvard
Stanford seems good as well.

I want to go into either medicine, law, or business. If I get a 2200, will colleges still use that to put a huge gap between me and 2300+ people? If I get a score like a 2140, will they then most definitely separate me? Extra curricular activities do account for more importance, but when is the point where big colleges start to doubt your application because of an SAT score?

if you can get over 2100 from what i’ve seen, your SAT score will NOT count you out.

I wrote a blog post on this a few days ago, with charts and stuff.

I’d cut and paste it here, but I can’t paste image files. It’s at [SesameWords: SAT Vocabulary 1.9 How much will a great SAT score help?](http://blog.sesamewords.com/2007/11/sat-vocabulary-19-how-much-will-great.html)

You can also check out a lot of charts correlating acceptance rates and SAT scores through Google books. Go to

[The Early Admissions Game: Joining … - Google Book Search](<a href=“The Early Admissions Game - Christopher. Avery, Andrew. Fairbanks, Richard J. Zeckhauser - Google Books”>The Early Admissions Game - Christopher. Avery, Andrew. Fairbanks, Richard J. Zeckhauser - Google Books)

and find pp. 153-155

and you should see a lot of data on your question.
