You should apply to all three. In cc vernacular, that means safeties, matches and reaches. In other words, colleges you’re sure you can get in to and can afford, some schools where your stats are right in the range and some schools where your stats are below average or the acceptance rate is really low.

We need your SAT scores to have a decent shot at estimating the appropriate selectivity of your target schools. Tentatively I’d guess “selective” would be your main target, with your GPA and upper 10% rank (as opposed to very or extremely selective).

thank you! i forgot to mention i got a 4 on the AP Statistics (sophomore year) test and am taking AP lang and AP US this year (junior). Would i be able to get into Northeastern or any other Boston area colleges or University of Maryland, Penn State, University of Delaware. Also what other colleges seam like a good match? I really appreciate your time!

We can’t give you much of an idea of where you’re competitive for without SAT scores and other information like race and location. What I can tell you from your ECs is that you’re probably not a candidate for the topmost tier of schools (Ivies and their ilk) because you’ve won few awards and do little outside the scope of your school, and I also don’t see a particular personality or theme emerging. Are you a science geek? A classic lit fanatic? A future business mogul? The tippy-top schools are looking for kids to fill a niche. However, with decent SAT, you’ll have a good chance at several good schools.

Everyone needs a safety on the application list. Other than that, apply to all the colleges that you would enjoy attending if you were admitted. Don’t apply to every college on the planet, but apply to those that look best to YOU for your preferences. You aren’t sure how the admission committee will decide–give it a chance to admit you by submitting an application.

o also i play volleyball and am in the school musical. i designed a tee shirt for key club’s breast cancer month and it was sold and our school made over $600 to donate. I am really into art and math basically
