What Separates You

I want to know where someone really showcases their ‘x-factor’ or something that separates them from the rest of the applicants. It confused me since there is no real r

Student1996- if you have a sport in which you excel, you contact the coach in advance of your visit/interview and they will make a point to meet with you. If you excel in the arts, you can contact the chairman of the department and they will also probably have time for someone to meet with you. You should also mention your special interest when you call to make the appointment for the visit/interview, and you can also highlight it in your essay. Hope that helps!

In your recommendations, sports tapes, art portfolio, awards you got and maybe in your essays and your talks to the interviewers if it is a true passion of yours.

Also mention if you attended any special camps or clinics. This shows your invested interests.

thanks so much! but what if, like me, you were to have an off-campus interview due to a few restrictions? Is the interview the only opportunity like I had expected?
@DAndrew
When/Where do you submit the awards and achievements you have accomplished?

Student1996- you can always email the coach or music director at the school and start a conversation that way. (I’m assuming your interest is sports or music, but you get the idea!) Some schools have a supplemental recommendation for that you can have filled out by your current coach or adult leader. Good luck!
