What should be my target schools?

I’m a junior in high school and am overwhelmed by the admissions process so I thought the kind souls at CC might be able to help me out. I’ll keep in short because no one wants to read some long story about someone else’s life.

I’ve been in the top 10% of my class since the start, am currently 30/492. I got a 1470 on a practice SAT and just took the March 10 test (no scores yet) and am realistically going to be about 1500 by the time I’ll be applying. I am in all advanced classes, got a 4 on AP Human Geography and a 5 on AP World History. I’m in three AP classes now and will be taking seven my senior year. I’m captain of the debate team and twice state qualifier, have made Texas All-State Choir, and am an Eagle Scout.

I’m interested in majoring in Political Science and going to a top university. Right now I feel like HYPS might be possible, albeit a reach. Otherwise, I hear Berkeley, U Mich, UCLA, and UC San Diego have good Poly Cy departments. What schools do you guys think are good targets for me and what should I be doing to increase my chances?

I think you should really work on your class rank and note that UC Berkeley is extremely hard to get into if you’re not from California (I’m guessing you’re from Texas because of the choir).

1500 out of 1600 or 2400? If it’s out of 2400, I would suggest getting the CollegeBoard’s SAT prep book and doing some practice tests/reading some tips, etc if HYPS are your goal.

1500/1600 I didn’t include the writing portion because I thought that colleges don’t care as much about that. Yah, I am from Texas.
