My topic was to support the claim that opposites attract.

I talked about my personal experiences (being different at a new school) and the Simpsons.

that essay topic rules out history

For literature, I was thinking of Macbeth, but I just couldn’t get it to fit.

First of all, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are very similar. Both of them try to be men. Secondly, Macbeth becomes nihilistic and doesn’t even care about Lady Macbeth dying. Thirdly, how are you supposed to prove that they are attracted to each other? Oh, they just like each other because they use terms of endearment, make out, and are married. Yeah, that doesn’t work. At the same time, you can’t say they dislike each other. The whole reversal of roles makes it confusing, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to provide a satisfactory interpretation.

In retrospect, Of Mice and Men could have worked.

PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK OF MY CHOICE OF EXAMPLES FOR THE ESSAY.
I’m worried that writing about the Simpsons will work against me.
