What should I be doing now?

So I’m a sophomore in high school and I am starting to figure out what colleges I might be interested in. One of the schools I am really interested in is Northwestern.

I am currently involved in Marching Band (I’ll be a section leader next year) and my school paper (currently the opinion editor) as well as some other random music related things (Pit Orchestra, a community honorsish band). I don’t think GPA will be a problem for me and I am taking the AP classes and such at my school…

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I should be doing so that when I do apply for colleges, I will have a good shot of getting into Northwestern? Can you also tell me a little bit about the school? I’ve read about it online, but it’d be nice to have the perspective of a…person lol.

It’s hard to chance before you’re a senior, and even then, it’s hard to chance. My advice would be to do things you’re passionate about, don’t do them just for a school. If you’re passionate about marching band and your school paper, seek leadership positions and stay committed.

Northwestern in my opinion, is amazing. It has incredible academics, the people there are both intellectuals and realists, and it’s located right next to Chicago but Evanston has a college-town feel. I’m biased lol, but I think Northwestern offers the complete package. If you want to get your own feel for it, go visit. If you can, do an overnight at the school-- it solidified my decision to apply ED.

Sam Lee can probably give you more info about the quality of the academics btw.
