What should I be doing with my money to prepare for college?

What should I be doing with my money in preparation for collage? I’m 15, unemployed, I have a checking account and a regular savings account, but no HYSA or CD or anything along those lines. I’m also unsure of how much money my parents will be able to provide me for collage, as we are in a relatively tight financial situation. I’m also relatively new to a lot of this, especially since my parents unschooled me for about four years, so explaining would be greatly appreciated.

First step is talk to your parents.

Right now, you should be focusing on getting good strong grades. Focus on all academic areas, but especially -written language.

You could have a nice savings account, but without a strong high school grade point average- GPA, you won’t be admitted, nor considered for scholarships which could pay for your educational expenses.
Hint: College vs. “collage” (mixture of art pieces).

This is important.

Are you asking this question because your parents cannot afford, or are not willing, to pay for your college? If so, your ability to attend college right after high school will be dependent on being accepted to a full-need met college, receiving enough merit aid to pay for everything, or winning one of the very few full-pay scholarship that are available to low income high school graduates.

All of these require top-level academics, so that should be your primary focus. Having accomplishments outside of academics is also helpful, but merit-based assistance is primarily based on academics.

We don’t know - for example, how much you have. It’s great you have an account. Is it $100, $1000 or $1 million? Do you spend it ? Maybe you do nothing, get a cd, learn aboot stock and buy a stock.

When it comes to college selection, your budget as guided by your parents, will determine that.

Focus on schooling for now.
Good luck.
