Hello all,
I was wondering what I should be doing and if I am on the right track to hopefully be going to a top med school (Ranking 15 and up)

I am a rising Junior at the University of Richmond. I am a premed student but also a Finance major and chemistry minor. I initially thought I wanted to major in finance but realized early on that I really enjoyed the sciences. It wasn’t until the beginning of this semester that I wanted to be premed and want to go to med school. I was basically half way done with my major before realizing this. I did not want to throw this away so I have continued to major in finance. The University of Richmond has a top 20 business school in the nation as well and I thought that it looked good that it wasn’t just a throw away degree. Usually the top 4 accounting firms in the nation as well as J.P Morgan and Morgan Stanley regularly recruit out of here. My Business School GPA is a 3.925.

However I am not just a business person. I am also minoring in chemistry right now. I currently have a 3.783 GPA in the science (4 semesters of chemistry, 1 semester of Biology and calc) and an overall 3.62 GPA. Spanish really brought down by GPA, but there is nothing that I can do about that now.

I was also a Division 1 Varsity Athlete (Track and XC) for 2 years, until they cut our program. I was very active in that but unfortunately I do not have that opportunity anymore. Because I was involved in sports which took up 30 hours a week, I was not able to do a bunch of volunteering and such.

have joined a couple honor societies as well as joining a fraternity on campus and also being elected Senator for our student government association. I have been a chemistry TA for 4 semesters now ranging from general chemistry, organic chemistry and also inorganic chemistry. I also hold two other jobs, one being the supervisor for the Center for Recreation and Wellness, a multimillion dollar facility. I am in charge of opening or closing and ensuring the safety of all the patrons. I am responsible for the daily operations and am head over several groups of student employees. I also am an Resident Assistant for the school as well.

The past two summers I have worked as a lifeguard, teaching swim lesson to younger kids, leading water aerobics sessions for the older members of the community and also being a dive coach.

This summer I am planning on volunteering at the local hospital as well as shadowing a physical therapist. I am also interning 30 hours a week at an economic firm for my finance major.

Next fall I am taking the rest of the courses that I need to take the MCAT at the end of my junior year. I am also doing organometallic research on how transition metals catalyze reactions, more specifically how to break CO2 into carbon and oxygen. We are collaborating with a lab in Princeton as well for this. I am hoping to also volunteer at the hospital here in Virginia as well.

I was wondering if I was on the right track and what else I should be doing? Am I making myself competitive for med schools? What else should I be doing to get on the right track?

P.S I am also a hispanic student. Is this going to help me at all?
