what should I be when I grow up?

I’m a rising college junior, and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of possible career fields; I’m an English major.

My prof says that I’m: “incredibly outgoing, friendly, good-natured, curious and thoughtful […] good in a sort of management/marketing/human relations kind of field–one who gets to talk to people, work with people, write and plan, and encourage people to do things good for them”

Which specific jobs sound like they would fit this description?

Human resources staffer.

An Evangelical minister.

Trophy Wife / Male Arm Candy

Wow — after almost 5,000 posts you don’t know yourself well enough to make a few recommendations to yourself. How can that be, or are you spoofing us…

ncmentor, my posts had more to do with getting into college, not my interests and career options.

A firetruck.

You should work on Dick Cheney’s public relations team.

that prof rec seemed pretty generic, almost like a standard recommendation letter where he just changed the name of the student, haha. There comes a time when you need to decide for yourself. I mean, come on, you say you’re an English Major and you know a professor well enough to write you a rudimentary recommendation. Not exactly in-depth knowledge of your personal/academic/professional life.

If you work hard maybe you can become a polysaccharide.

I don’t know why everyone here’s being such a ******. I just asked a simple question on some possible career options.

This isn’t rocket science, but apparently it seems to be because no one can answer it. Guess yall aren’t as smart as I thought.

After being on CC for five years, one would think you would know the type of responses to expect from people here.

Seriously, haha

Fine, I’ll give you a serious response: Porn director and co-star.

Your post is too wide open - almost everyone could fit into “your a nice person” categories. That doesn’t tell us anything about who you are, never mind tell us about what you should be.

You can if you want real feedback give a Very Detailed description or of course you could see your guidance counselor and start with a battery of interest tests.

I don’t think people were trying to be a bunch of *****, it’s just that the way you phrased the question didn’t make anyone think you were looking for a serious answer, because no one could answer such an open ended question about someone we have no info about… Hope that helps

Marketing or college professor.
