What should I do? Accepted into VPA which I don't want to go to...

Basically Syracuse was my number one and was very excited when I got off the waitlist. I was dissapointed to learn that I was accepted into the college of visual and performing arts, communication and rhetorical studies.

I am really not an art major and and looked at the course catalogue and had almost no classes I was interested in.

What should I do? Should I call them?

If you really want to go, then you should still go freshman year and then transfer into another college sophomore year.

follow your heart and transfer to the major you want…

i’m assuming you were trying to get into newhouse. in case you were wondering, comm & rhet studies is basically where syracuse puts students who have great potential, but who they don’t think are quite ready for newhouse. so, essentially, you’ll be with a lot of other kids who are planning to transfer to newhouse. if you actually take a look at the curriculum, this major has nothing to do with art: [Curriculum | Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts](http://vpa.syr.edu/crs/undergraduate/curriculum)

the classes you take in the CRS major will prepare you for newhouse if that’s what you plan to transfer into and it really isn’t a major setback; newhouse accepts significantly more students from other SU colleges as transfers than it does transfers from other universities. also, if you’re planning to transfer out of CRS into another school like CAS or whitman, it shouldn’t be too hard to do after your freshman year. you can take electives in CAS during your freshman year, too.

i know it isn’t exactly what you were hoping for, but the CRS major won’t really set you back in any meaningful way. if, for whatever reason, you really want to be at syracuse, this is your way in.

^^what he/she said…great post!!

thanks for the help guys but what happens if I don’t get a 3.0? Am I stuck in the art school?

and yes I did originally apply to newhouse.

Do not be disappointed to be accepted into ANY of the schools at Syracuse University. This school has exceptional programs, every single one is unique and special in its own way. I understand that is cliche, but I am currently on the waiting list to SU, I would kill be get into any program there. I wait every day by the phone and by the computer, praying to hear anything from them. Be grateful for what you have been given, and make the right choice for you. If you turn down one program, that means someone else gets your spot. If you choose the wrong program, that means someone who wants it more than you do, doesnt get it, and that would be selfish.
Even getting accepted into 'Cuse is a dream come true for many of us.
