What should I do during required leave of absence?

Hello

I feel like I’ve burned out the last two semester. The first year, I had a 3.3/3.4 and well on my way to a BA in psychology. The second year, I don’t know what happened. Maybe it’s being depressed and lonely, taking premed courses (not doing premed anymore. Definitely not for me.), or living in an apartment alone. I’ve gotten horrible grades and the dean placed me in required leave of absence.

I have a full year in order to amend what went wrong the last semester. One cause for this academic issues may have been that I really don’t know what I want to do in college. I really didn’t have any clear motive or drive. In high school, I’d be focused on getting A’s in my AP classes, doing well on standardized tests, and getting into HYSMP. I think having a clear goal would help me motivate me in my studies.

Anyway, has anyone been in a similar situation? What have you done to remedy your problem and any advice for someone facing required leave of absence?

Thank you

Get a job in fast food or doing manual labor. That will motivate you to get back to school faster than anything else, and it’s cheaper than therapy.

Only halfway joking. ;)

You sound exactly like me. Did well in high school to get into college, but now that I’m at college I have no direction or motivation. Unfortunately I don’t know how to help you.

I had a friend who had to leave his university for a year for bad grades. He went back home, got a job, took classes at the local community college, got good grades, made up for everything he failed, and when he went under review, they let him back in. I don’t know if that’s the same situation, but if so, that seems like a decent course of action.
