What should i do if the Community college i attend has no courses of interest to me?

Sorry I was having trouble with the cc website.
One thing at a time.
Here is a crash course on meteorology on youtube offered by Yale. (29 videos)

@NASA2014 please Don’t insult me.

@raclut thank you,I liked how there were videos from almost every weather topic and a few topics from environmental science such as Energy types, climate change, and global warming. Any crash courses or documentaries in Zoology you can recccomend?

Let me search and get back to you. I looked at the curriculum offered at your school and there are good programs. At community college there are two types of programs. One would be classes that you would take to help you transfer to a four year college. A lot of the programs though are geared towards a student looking for an education but doesn’t have the time and money to commit to four years of school. A lot of the programs I see at your school are two year programs where once a student graduates they are ready to enter the job market. These two year programs lead to good jobs too it is just a matter of having interest in those career fields. The object of these two year programs is to get you the skills needed so that you can find a job. For a lot of people this means earning an income sooner and having the ability to save if they later decide to continue to work fulltime and study part time while they work to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

As far as enjoyable activities is there a local community center that offers classes? How about an adult education center. I don’t know what city you live in so I would recommend finding your nearest center. Usually those classes are very reasonably priced.

As far as summer jobs how about helping your neighbors. Does anyone have kids that need to be supervised over the summer during break? Does a neighbor need help with errands or small jobs around their home. Do you think you can help young kids with reading and writing? Young kids forget some of their academic skills over the summer and you can help them with reading or math. Some elementary schools have summer camps over the summer where they need camp counselors. I heard places like Costco and Trader Joe’s provide excellent benefits and flexible hours to college students. Do you like pets? Is there a pet shop or animal center where you could work at?

The most important thing before anything else is to take good care of your health. While on break get all you annual checkups done and lab work. You are very young so you want to maintain good health and have stamina to handle everything you have on your plate. Do activities that you enjoy. Summer is a great time to be outdoors to go for walks or a swim. You will find that you will feel more energized, sleep better, feel more relaxed and happy. As you get in a habit of this you will find that you will start looking forward to these activities because you are doing something that is good for body and mind. Start slow and build your stamina so that you can try out new things. Do you have a bike? Go for a bike ride and explore the area. Not only will you get fit but then you can also explore the area and feel a sense of freedom to move around and see places on your own.

Each day try to do something new even if it is something small. These small changes over time will lead to more positive changes in your life. Wake up each day with a positive energy that I am going to be productive today and that I am not going to let anything bother me. Stay positive and don’t let obstacles that come in your way keep you from focusing on your goals. Take those obstacles as challenges to yourself and learn from those experiences and use them as stepping stones to move forward. You can do this. Don’t let fear get in the way of fulfilling your dreams. Believe in yourself and your abilities.

There is so much information available on the internet. You just have to take the time to search the topics that interest you. For example there is a website called, “interesting engineering.” Look it up. Lots of cool articles about developments in different areas going on today.

I will have to take Ecology when i transfer if i major in Environmental Engineering or Zoology.i like, Ecology a lot but what labs are done in this class? I actually might like Ecology more than Zoology because I’m more interested in the animals environment than there bodies and dissecting them. I might major in one field i’m interested in and minor or double major in another field i’m interested in. Frogs are my favorite animal.

Some things you might be better served googling. You’ll probably be able to find a syllabus for an ecology lab faster than someone who’s taken that class can stumble upon your thread and type up an answer. “Ecology lab syllabus” got me a few PDFs to look at.

I worry reptiles and amphibians will become exctinct. We need to take better care of this planet so that doesn’t happen.

If a topic in Biology, Chemsitry, or Physics relates to Zoology, Meteorology, or Environmental Science would it be appropriate to be talking about these subjects with my instructor in these classes? Would it be appropriate to be asking if I could do a lab related to one of these subjects for extra credit when I take these classes? For example, would it be appropriate to ask if i could do a dissection lab in Biology, a ocean acidification lab in chemistry, or a weather forecasting lab in physics class for extra credit?

Be prepared for them to say no – labs are a LOT of effort to set up, they’d have to schedule a time when you can both be there for several hours, and buying stuff they wouldn’t have bought otherwise, like bodies to dissect, probably isn’t in the budget.

Well I was thinking more like animals to dissect.

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. If your class doesn’t normally do those, it’s going to be a heck of a lot of effort (and money?) to make it happen for one person on a whim.

What kind of equipment or software would be needed to do weather forecasting?

Green screen. Tv next to you so you can see where you hands are going in what direction

Start out by reading the syllabus when you get it. That may state the professor’s thoughts on extra credit. Sometimes professors don’t allow any and sometimes they only allow very specific extra credit that they have already decided upon which is offered to the entire class. I doubt they will allow a lab due to supplies/time/budget etc but something like a research paper if everyone is offered a chance to do a research paper may be more appropriate to ask about. As much as you may be more interested in advanced subjects the professor may want to stay within the realm of the class being taught.

The professor should have office hours. You could stop by and talk to the professor about more advanced topics related to the class. However while in class it may be considered off topic to talk about something not being directly taught and some professors may be fine with it and some may find it disruptive or it may be taking up time from students who want to focus on the actual class at hand.

You could try looking up online animal dissection for fun. I put in free online animal dissections in a search box and got a lot of hits but I didn’t look at any of them. See if there is a college or public tv studio nearby. They may not teach weather forecasting but may be able to introduce you to using green screen and how it works facing to/from it etc. There are also a lot of hits under free online ocean acidification labs or games.

Just remember that when your classes start the material you are learning in them is the foundation for future classes. It is more important to focus on them and do well so as you work your way up you have the basics down. Right now your interests are just for fun but remember your education comes first so don’t let your personal interests prevent you from trying your best and doing well in a class just because it isn’t a class that you would have chosen.
