What should i do IN college so that I will be prepared for graduate school?

Or if I don’t go o graduate school for a real job…

I’m a little frustrated because in high school if I had known to be Positions of a club (president, vicepresident) that I should do a sport and become captain of it. that i should study hard for the SAT. make sure i got straight As even if it was just my freshman year! try to do close to 200 volunteer hours and join math team and make sure we place at state…then I wouldnt have been freaking out and trying to do it all by junior year… i had no idea that this was all I needed to do! but it worked I got into UCSD!!

But now the real question…before I go to college what SHOULD I know to do in college so that I’ll be prepared for the REAL future???

What is your major?

Put yourself out there. Get discovered, get internships, do work studies, fill leadership positions, join clubs. Pass necessary exams for your major and intended field of work, make good marks, graduate in the top whatever percent of your class. All these will help you in jobs and graduate school. They want to see a motivated and high achieving student. Note: it is a lot easier to get into grad school than an undergrad (unless you are pre-med or pre-law).

Make sure you get good grades your first quarter. A lot of freshmen get really overwhelmed and super stoked on college life, instead of focusing on school. Make sure this doesn’t happen to you because you will regret having a low GPA fall quarter. It will continue to bring down your average the rest of your 4 years.

If you want to go into grad school (I think of any kind), there are two secrets to success: RESEARCH and LETTERS OF REC (aka get to know your faculty)!

^ and also being passionate enough about whatever subject you’re going to graduate school for. it’s not a walk in the park and some parts are going to be pretty tough, so make sure you’re really up for it.

Good grades obviously keep options open. But also remember to have fun and make connections. People skills get people ahead in the real world.

In addition, get involved with clubs and activities to improve and polish social skills. Go to office hours to get to know your professors on a more personal level, it’ll come in handy when you need letters of recommendations in the future.

^ agreed. Its all about office hours and chatting with professors! They can hook it up, and you’ll stand out.
