i had prepared the sat for 1.5 year and i got 1850 on the test even though i had been scoring around 2000-2150 on practice test. now i begin hating the SAT. i want to retake the test, but i have done over 100 practice testes ,so there is now no test that i can use !. what should i do now ???
HELP MEE , i’m so desperate :((
What you need to do after every practice test is look over your mistakes and see where you went wrong and correct those mistakes. This is the part that most people tend to miss, and that’s why scores don’t improve. Looking over and correcting your mistakes is even more important than taking the actual test. Also, whatever you do, take practice tests in a test-like setting, timer and all. That’s also really important, but if you take away one thing from my comment, it’s to LOOK OVER YOUR MISTAKES on your practice tests.
Hope this helps!
Hurray metapod31! Several things: I think students need to learn test-taking techniques because there is a clear strategy to taking standardized or any other sort of tests. 2. As best I can tell, the vast majority are fretting over getting the right score to enter a particular school. There are many, many wonderful schools so your life is not over if you don’t get into your top choices. Third, score equivalents for ACT and SAT tests are available on line. That should help you choose between sending one over the other. Four, students have taken standardized tests for hundreds to thousands of years. Scores on the SAT and ACT should be expected to be quite similar to each other as well as scores from standardized earned earlier in school. Five, which is easier? There are differences in how the tests are conceptualized, but they should result in similar scores. Further, easier is a relative term. If you have been a high school student who has paid attention in class, studied, read the books, connected what you learned to the content of other classes and life and thought, you should earn a higher score than most students who were far less diligent. The tests are used to estimate potential in the first year of college so should be expected to reflect your grades and study habits.Sixth for the hardy. You might want to go to the registrar website at a school and find how your scores fit among to those those of admitted students in previous years. Finally, you guys are expressing far to much stress, angst, sense of being over-whelmed, or feeling your life will be ruined if…Just stop it and think of something else and remind yourself to stop it, every time you get these thoughts and feelings. Learn how to control your anxiety and practice your relaxation technique every time you feel really anxious. You will need to learn these strategies because you are very unlikely to avoid the dentist, traffic officer, blood pressure cup, or the chance of your team entering the finals. You won’t die! However, if you really give free rein to your emotions, your scores will decline progressively. Not a good plan. I have taken lots of high-stakes tests in my life. I found that using test-taking strategies and controlling anxiety are really helpful. In one situation, I couldn’t remember a single question or answer, but was confident in skills whether I got 1 or 99 percentile. If you don’t get what you want now, do something else.
