So I cheated on a Spanish Test by writing down some phrases that trigger a specific tense on my hand. I got caught, completely owned up to it. My teacher is being lenient and not reporting me, and allowing me to retake the section I attempted to cheat on. I’ve owned up to it with my parents, I’ve written a note of apology to my teacher, which I intend to give to them tommorrow. What other next steps should I take. I was desperate, sick (literally and mentally), and messed up. My teacher might put it on my transcript (which is complelety fair), and IDK what to do next.
If they’re not reporting you, it’s not going on your transcript.
What should you do? Ensure you never do it again.
Cheating has consequences.
So what you should do - learn from it, grow from it - and in the future, win with pride and lose with dignity.
Then it will end up being an immaterial blip in your long life.
Good luck.
Good for you to own up to it. Be thankful the teacher is letting it go. A written apology and reflection on what you learned from the incident. I just heard a girl from Philips Exeter kicked out from cheating last week. Learn from this lesson and move on.
High school teacher here.
In short, you’ll be fine as long as you don’t do it again. I have two students currently serving suspension for cheating. One of them asked me earlier this semester for a letter of recommendation for an internship. This one mistake of his did not change my mind about writing this letter. We teachers don’t judge the kids unless they make it a habit. Depends on how your school transcript system works, academic integrity may or may not be an item on it. It is not on ours.
I know one student in class of 2023 who was removed from a magnet school after a serious offense. He took the consequence and moved on to be a good student for the next two years in high school. Last year he was accepted to several T30 colleges. His main essay was about his experience, reflect, and growth after being expelled.
