But if I go to NYU, I’m booked up for the summer. I might not even be having a graduation party because of the tight timeline…
June 26: Pre-Prom & Prom
June 27: Mandatory Graduation Breakfast/Rehearsal
June 28: Graduation
June 29: hopefully a day to relax/hang with family/but hoping no one has a grad party this day
June 30: NYU Pre-Freshman Summer Program starts
But this is all in the hands of fate, as I won’t know about NYU for some time.
I guess I’ll try? Hopefully I don’t burnout.
It’s fine! You are moving on to a different and exciting chapter of your life…whenever that happens.
Another thought. Do you like being outdoors? Our local garden club is always looking for volunteers to weed the gardens every week.
Being outside is cool–but I tend to go outside/on walks particularly if I’m anxious/stressed out. It helps me ground myself. But not always…and in this case, I wouldn’t be willing to weed gardens for some reason. It depends on the outdoor activity. I could do outdoor STEM projects (eg: lemonade/mento powered rockets w/plastic water bottles) but I feel it’s a 50/50 split depending on what it is/why I need to go outside.
Thanks for the reassurance!!!
Can u link it please
Approx 5 posts up you will see a link provided by OP in the body of one of their responses.
Ok. It just had classes. I’ll find it. Thx.
So, I have gathered that the majority says that getting a job is crucial. I agree, but the NYU program (if I get in) will not let me, and, in addition, you aren’t permitted to miss a day.
I just had a secondary question, but where do you start looking for Summer jobs? Bulletins? The library? I have no clue…but I wanna start my research early.
I suggest reading some books on how to succeed in college:

Thank you! Sorry i have notifications turned off for this thread…I don’t know how that happened. But I appreciate it.
Start by asking people you know…do you know any others who have worked previously as students during the summer?
Is there an adult in your family who might know someone who knows someone?
I suggested a day care summer job. If that appeals to you, call the place and ask to speak to the director and set up an appointment to meet if they have summer openings.
If there is a day camp hear you, find out who runs it, and reach out to them.
Does this mean friends? Or like…adults?
I’ll have to ask!
Alright…calling…my favorite thing. I should muster the confidence to do that.
I ask this a lot - reach out meaning…on the phone? email? which?
If you know someone, reach out in person.
If you are looking for someone who runs a program, find out how they hire employees and do whatever they say.
If you feel comfortable working at a local business, go in person and ask to speak to the owner.
Would you be interested in volunteering at a senior center, library, or something like that?
At one point, you mentioned vocational rehab. If you have a counselor there, ask them for help.
Some places will have signs in their window - now hiring.
You can walk into a local ice cream shop and ask for a job application - for summer work. Or the local parks and rec department.
But you don’t HAVE TO work. If you’d rather volunteer, that’s ok too.
But you do need to start coming out of your comfort zone a bit.
And you do have to decide - if you go to an NYU vs. a more suburban school - is the pace of NY going to be too much, too fast - not just the school but Manhattan itself - it’s a very hustle and bustle place.
You’ll be fine.
Everyone is in a similar position and many people are introverts - but people want to hear from you, so walking in and saying “hi, i’m interested in working this summer, how do I apply?” is an easy thing to say and they’ll either give you an app, a website address to apply or let you know, we don’t hire for seasonal work. All three answers are perfectly appropriate - and then you hit the next place.
But if you don’t land a job - that’s ok too.
Best of luck.
This is quite helpful, thanks!
My public library allows for volunteers, and, in addition, I have a job form filled out from like last year that when a job opens for you they pull you out and call you.
I may not have specified, but my school sent some kind of referral and if I wanted to set up a meeting with a counselor. I have pushed back on it.
Yupp…still don’t know where I’m going yet. The college application
anxiety continues!
Agreed
Omg this is sooo real
