What should I do to become petroleum engineer?

Okey, short story currently I am majoring in pharmacy but seriously its so boring and I like sometimes dont even know what I am doing in the class. So finally I took my decision for Petroleum engineer but I live in ohio and there is only one college in ohio and its so expensive because I live alone and dont get any support. So,I googled some colleges but they are out of state. My friend suggested me to go for petroleum engineering technology or technician(hope its a same thing) in Houston community college in texas. But I am scared to take this decision because I dont know if there are any jobs in this field. My simple plan is that if I get my petroleum engineer technology degree and work for 2 or 3 years then I will go for another 2 years for my bachelors after I make enough money to support myself.please suggest me what should I do?

To be a petroleum engineer… you will need to get a petroleum ENGINEERING degree from an accredited program. Most are located in Texas, and Louisiana. Stanford has a great program too. A petroleum technician is not at all an engineer. They do support work for the engineers, and are paid about half the salary. Houston is where you will likely end up. All the major oil and gas companies are in Houston. Someone with a degree in petroleum engineering from an accredited program, with a good GPA, will most likely be recruited from a company in Houston. If not, finding a job will be very easy. Good luck

OP, please contact the poster named TheAnalyst…she posts often in the parents of the high school class of 2009 thread. Her son recently completed his petroleum engineering degree ( I believe at West Virginia?) and he has a wonderful job that he is just loving…and yes, he does engineering…
