What should I do to prepare myself for applying here?

Basically, I am a freshman in high school from TN and my dream college is NYU.
I have a few questions:

As for grades, what is the average GPA that they take? I’m good in most subjects except for chemistry.

Is there any programs or involvement in the community (community service, etc) that would earn me brownie points on the application?

What subjects would you recommend improving or that they would focus on in an application?

I know this is early ahead but I’ve already been researching colleges. Thanks!

Try to have an UW GPA of 3.8 minimum all for years. Take challenging courses but don’t kill yourself. If you aren’t playing sports, join a lot of clubs and try holding a position if possible. As far as which subjects to take, it really depends on which school of NYU you want to apply to. Oh, and do community service every year. Try to do at least 25hrs each school year :)

^ In addition find some summer programs which would reflect well on your ambitions.

I would say you should have a 3.5 minimum. It’s possible to get into NYU with lower (especially if you’re applying to an arts-related program) but the average NYU accepted student has about a 3.65 GPA.

Community service is not that important to be honest. I had very little and was just admitted to NYU. I would suggest that you show an obvious passion through your ECs and try to get a leadership position (president, editor-in-chief, etc.) of a school club by senior year.

For classes, definitely show that you excel somewhere. I was in regular math/science classes throughout high school but took several APs in history, english, and foreign languages because I’m a more humanities-oriented student. Take APs in the classes that you enjoy but still do well in classes that you don’t enjoy.

I’m from tn also and I was just admitted. I would agree with a minimum of 3.5 and I would do my best to lean towards 3.6-3.7, however gpa isn’t everything. Since you’re from tn you’ll probably end up taking the ACT and I would shoot for a 30 or higher anything lower than a 30 will make it tough for you. Finally community service isn’t as important as leadership and also summer programs at universities will look good as well. I did a summer program at georgetown and oxford university(UK not Ole Miss).
