to decide if you want to be a teacher, go to
[Do you want to become a teacher?](Elementary Education)
and click on Dr. Bob Kizlik’s comments about tips on becoming a teacher.

It will give you some idea about whether you should go into education, that’s for sure.

What exactly is your question? This is how it normally works: You tell us about what your goals are in college, what interests you have, what new things you want to pursue in college, what location/size/etc. you’re looking for in a college, and we come up with schools that we’ve heard about that we think you should consider. I sympathize with you in your concern about what you’d like to do.

First, do you have any regrets in high school? For example, I regret not having played in the orchestra. Now I really want to join the orchestra at Swarthmore, where I’m headed to college. In that case I want to go to a school where you can join an orchestra even if you’re not very good, or at least find opportunities for music lessons.

What goals do you have in life? Not many high schoolers can come up with very good goals, for obvious reasons, but you should try. Are your goals to become smarter, to be more prepared for the work world, to develop confidence, to see different cultures? What goals do you have for college? You do not need to have a specific, narrow goal, such as “I will become a lawyer.” College is a time of exploration, but if you have some ideas of what you want to accomplish in college, besides get a degree, you can start thinking about what schools will help you achieve your goals. That’s how you should go about looking for colleges and universities.

Your list of classes doesn’t tell us much about you and what you want to accomplish.

Alright. Thank you, both of you.

I want a college that is not too small, not too big. I want to have a good relationship with my teachers, and have the ability to go and see them personally if need be. I want to be able to have a good feel for most of my Class, but would also like the opportunity to meet new people.
As for location, I prefer staying “close to home”, not too close however. So preferably a college in the Midwest. However, my mom is very determined that I should go to the East coast, which I’m not totally opposed to, I just really don’t have a clue what colleges are on the East coast that could fit my needs. Swathmore, though, is a school that my mom has pushed, I’ve got disks and pamplets on them…but, I’m not sure that it’s my cup of tea.
I also am going to need a college that I can get finnancial aid for and scholarships

To me, I think I HAVE TO KNOW which proffesion I would like to go into, to know what college I want to go to. That is just my thought process though.

Goals for college vary for me. First goal I have in college, is to experience lots of different things. I would like to help people, be involved in some type of activity- like intermeral track-to keep off that freshman 15. I most definately AM going to study abroad at least once or twice.

I want to come out of college experienced, more well-rounded, and confident. Confident that I can get a job right after colllege, confident of who I am as a person, and confident that life after college will not be as it was before.
I come from a single parent home, and I will be the 1st in my family to go to college. I want to ensure that my future kids will have a comfortable living style, and won’t have to worry about money, or whether or not I can afford to buy them that pair of shoes.

After college, as for life goals, I want a family first and foremost. But I also want to be a sucessful woman. And be able to “hold my own” in case of divorse or anything like that.

I am a friendly, caring person. I want my college to reflect that as well. I want them to care about me, I want friendly peers. I don’t want a hippy school or anything like that. lol. But, I need to feel comfortable, but also I need a school that will help me stay focused.

…

Does your mom push East Coast for geographical reasons or is it a prestige thing?

Swarthmore is a pretty big reach for you and in general East Coast LACs are going to be more competitive to get admitted to than those in the Midwest or the South. If you’re thinking of law school in your future, you should try to get your UG education for the least amount of money. Look for good colleges with merit aid as well as FA.

Miami U of Ohio

Denison

In PA, Muhlenberg and Ursinus. Perhaps Lafayette.

Actually, the college I thought of first after reading your description of what you’re looking for was Elon University in North Carolina. Just under 5,000 undergrad enrollment, very friendly and caring vibe. Approx 75 percent of undergrads receive aid. Long list of scholarships available. Check it out despite the distance.
Being from Illinois, you may want to look at Illinois Wesleyan. It is smaller than you appear to want, but has has the large Illinois State Campus right next door.

Maybe Beloit, Lawrence, Wooster, Knox, St. Olaf and Kalamazoo might be some to look into. Good luck!

Goucher seems like it would fit.
