What should I do?

Hey,
Im an incoming jr in highschool… but I failed regular chemistry with a D… I have a few choices but I’m not sure what I should do.

If I go to summer school, I take fundamentals of chemistry, which is a level below the one I took in the school year. My counceler said this will not change my grade, but I’d be able to join physics next year. So, my GPA would still have the D+ in it.

Take chemistry and physics my jr year. or physics and AP Bio my senior year. (during the school year)

Either way, I’m taking classes during the summer… Fundamentals of chemistry, or SAT classes at a community college.

Thanks,
John

I dont see why there is much contemplating here… option 2 seems the best. Take Chemistry and Physics at the same time most definately, and the SAT classes during the summer… or better yet, take a class that interests you in the summer. ;)

EDIT: why waste a summer doing boring SAT work? Study SAT on your own in your free time with one of the prep book. Spend the summer either resting or doing a hobby, or as suggested, taking a class about something you really like.

Hey,
It’s just… I don’t know, I feel bad about my grades. Just wanna do something that could help me later… Already had my resting time during the school year…
Also, I just found out if I take the class during the school year, I won’t get credits, but it’ll fix my grade. BUT, I think my credits from band will cover all that. Another thing is, I can’t take chemistry and physics at the same time, just AP bio and physics my senior year. Hope it’s not too much.

Will this look really bad on my transcript when it says ‘no credits’ it’s for chemistry, and I also had to retake biology in the summer last year. It’s just the science’s really messing me up. I just hope it doesn’t ruin my chances into getting into a UC.

John

If I understand you correctly, you have had unsatisfactory results two years running in science. Given that, it looks like a poor idea to take on two demanding science courses in the same school year.

My advice is to take Fundamentals of Chem this summer, with the ideas of 1) actually learning some Chemistry; 2) getting admitted to physics, 3) figuring out (if you don’t already know) why science is killing you, and 4) fixing whatever the problems are so that you will be prepared in the fall to get a high grade in physics next year.

It is too bad that you have a D+ on your report card, but life goes on. The bad grade does give you the opportunity to show great improvement in science in your junior year by fixing whatever the problems are over the summer.
