One republic4,

Nice job getting into BC EA. I think Brown is a major long shot because the stats are middling, and Brown has already filled 35% of their class via ED.

thank you for the honesty, I guess there is nothing i can do now but wait…

a few more opinions?

I think Brown is a reach for you. Your stats are low and Brown’s acceptance rate is under 10%. You never know though, your SAT is within the middle 50% for Brown(on the low side though), so some kids get in with scores similar to yours. Being first generation will help too. There are a lot of good things on your app, just the sat and gpa low. Honestly, I wouldn’t get your hopes up (but I wouldn’t even tell someone with a 2400 to get their hopes up, you never know with Ivy Leagues). My friend and I are both applying to Brown with ~2300 SATs and 4.0 gpas and we’re already preparing for our rejections, but you never know what will happen for any of us, Ivy League admissions can be a crapshoot. I wish you good luck and congrats on Northeastern and BC! Never seen Northeastern, but BC is beautiful and an awesome school.

anyone else? This is my first choice I am completely beating myself up for not applying ED.

onerepublic4,
Congrats on the Northeastern and BC acceptances. You are going to really want to make sure that NU does not “gap” you on financial aid, which with large application numbers and low endowment, they have a tendency to do. BC doesn’t offer much money - a valedictorian from my local high school got accepted for 2008, and they didn’t give him a dime of aid.

NU’s app numbers went way up for EA this year, to 16,000+! Considering that their yield went up about 2% last year, and forced some changes in “study abroad” programs to ensure room, they were probably very selective with this years EA pool. Your acceptance, especially to the pharmacy program is quite a feat!

Going ED would have put you in the shark tank with the strongest applicants, especially at the Ivies. To me, you have the best of both worlds right now - a couple acceptances under your belt, and still being considered RD, at Brown which you indicate is your first choice.

Look at it this way, its possible to get summarily rejected ED - instead, you are still in the game - midyear grades, stepping up the GPA and rank perhaps - those all can help, and will get thrown in the mix.

Just remember, a school is what you make of it. You will have a lot of exploring ahead of you. Take stock, be practical and attentive with respect to finances as its a long journey.

There will be opportunity, and people who will take an interest in you - at any of the schools mentioned above. You just need to prepare yourself to be ready to utilize those opportunities and develop the variety of relationships that await.

Congrats and Good Luck,

Mr. VC

I appreciate the kind words. Could you actually give me your opinion on what I should expect from Brown? I would seriously appreciate that. BC and NU are great schools but Brown is my dream.

Expect nothing, that way if you are accepted you will be happy, but a rejection won’t bite as much. That is my outlook.

Why didn’t you do ED if its your first choice? I did and I was deferred but it shows Brown that if accepted I will go, which helps!

I think Brown is a reach, but your ethnicity may help you so I’m not sure …

Any AA brown students on CC that can help me out? I’d really appreciate it. I was told by my GC that my income and first gen would be my real hooks.

So I retook the SATs. Lets say i kicked up my writing score to around a 650+. Can i get a few more chances?

well, 5 days left… anyone else want to chance me? :(

Did you get in?
