What Should I Expect From a CIS Class?

Computer Systems and Information I Believe.

I’ve never taken such a course in that department and would like to know if its tough. I believe UCI recommends it to transfer as an Anthro Major, yet I’ve only seen that posted on one transfer handout I got from school and no where else online on any .edu sites. Neither have I seen UCLA or UCB even mention that I need this class.

Nevertheless have to ask what expect of this class and most importantly if it’s deficult or not. I’d be taking CIS 100, so the introductory class.

Finally, If I do sign up for this class i’ll be doing it online. And it’s a 8-week online course opposed to a regular full semester 18 week class.

Your thoughts?

Mine was easy. We did online hw that were examples of excel spreadsheets, and we just had to complete steps to make the sheet complete, same with word etc

Well, I guess it depends which CC you are taking the class at. CIS classes may be very different among CCs, so I can only speak for mine.

I am tutoring CS/CIS here and usually CIS classes are extremely easy if you have basic computer knowledge. The fact that you are posting on this board alone is enough for me to be sure you would get an A at my CC without much studying. People having difficulties with intro CIS courses here are usually the ones who have never used a PC before (i.e. non-traditional students). Some friends of mine (business majors) who have taken CIS classes told me these were the easiest classes they have ever taken.

The first CIS class here basically teaches you what the difference between software and hardware is, how to use Windows and Web browsers and how to use basic MS Word, etc.

Like I said, that’s only for my CC, but I doubt that it’s much different at other schools, so don’t be scared : )

interesting, thanks for writing.

i admit i’m pretty good with computers, good knowledge of html as well. no java at all or CS3 stuff…The one thing I admit I suck at is Excel Spreadsheets.

This class is 3 units which is good for me, already adding to my 14 units for this fall semester i signed up for this morning.

I have to look and check out ratemyprofessors and see if these online teachers are cool.

i think i just might add the CIS 101 online class. (Intro to computer info systems)

I checked ratemyprof and nothing but great reviews for this professor from students who took the online class. a lot of “easy A and helpful” quotes.

This class is 9 weeks, all online, so half a semester.

says: 8.0 HRS ARR, whatever that means…weekly online time or something?

Is CIS and MIS the same thing because I’m taking intro to MIS, but it’s listed under CIS though.
