Hi I’m planning on transferring after my freshman year of college and I was wondering what I should really focus on in order to get into the schools I want to. I have good grades from high school and was in the top 10%, but my sat score is lacking (1180). Should I focus on getting involved or getting good grades what are they looking for in an applicant and how can I make up for my dismal score? I also have an impressive resume from high school with two main activities that show specific talents. Along with volunteer work and I work two part-time jobs currently.
You should focus on both. While they will ask for high school transcripts, what you do in college is what matters the most. Good freshman grades show them that you can handle college-level coursework. Also, good grades may result in a good transfer merit scholarship. Showing that you are involved on campus is also good, but it’s more so your grades.
thanks
what about my Sat scores, will they hold a lot of weight my sat score is ten points below a colleges average scores?? will those matter as much
if you are at a community college there is a transfer center you should visit. If you are at a 4-year and are hoping to “trade up” you’re kinda on your own. It sounds like you have a specific school in mind you want to xfer to since you mention your SAT score is 10 pts below their average. What school is it? Do they accept lower-division xfers?
Also keep in mind that you’ll be applying to xfer this fall and they will only see your 1st semester grades from your mid-year report before they have to decide. So it’s not a big track record to go on, be sure you do well in all your classes.
Well im looking at 2 UMass Amherst and the major i plan on going into is competitive and in an email they sent me they said the Sat scores can make or break it… so idk
