I hear MIT applicants report their AIME scores on their apps…I really want to try to get at least a 7 on the AIME II, but I don’t think I will get more than a 5…should I try to study hard for the AIME to do really well on it, or would it be better for me to start studying for AP Comp Sci AB (took A last year), Physics E and M, and Environmental Science to get 5s on all of them? (I am trying to get the AP Siemens Scholar award, so I will have taken all math and Science APs)

You don’t have to study for AIME. A 7 and 5 are the same for the adcoms, and even if you study, it doesn’t gurantee a score of at least 7 because it depends on the test. But if you study for the AP tests, you’ll most definitely get 5s. That shows more to the adcoms because you are taking the most challenging classes especially in math and science and scoring awesome scores. Aside from AP Siemens Scholar Award, you might also get the National AP Scholar Award with 8 APs of score 4 or above. Those add extra points to the curiculum evaluation.

In fact, I didn’t put any score down (AMC or AIME) and still got in MIT.

eh you’re right…I knew the answer to only 5 of them (and because of my inability to bubble in the right answer from my scrap work, got a 3 instead…) so it’s no big deal.

I did the AP tests and no AIME route. Worked out in the end :P
