So, I grew up in an abusive household all my life and the college counselor I hired said that because I’m Asian, many sob stories like would work against me.
However, it really came to a forefront my senior year and led me to have lower grades than usual for my first semester. I have since turned 18 and left that household to live with my other parent (divorced parents, but had shared custody) and wanted to detail this to some of my waitlisted schools, but my counselor still said that it wouldn’t be a good idea.
The other detail I would include in my LOCI is a Girls Who Code program at a local cancer research center that I was a part of my junior year that I never mentioned anywhere on my apps (don’t know why, I think it may have been because the program only lasted 6 months).
I know I’m supposed to mention what I’ve done since I’ve submitted my application, but all my plans to work in the hospital with a research team from the local uni got cut off because of COVID-19. I have not been able to accomplish much beyond CITI training this semester.
I am a prospective cognitive science/neuroscience major. I would really appreciate some more guidance as to what I could include in my LOCI.
