My family experience a change in circumstance (not that drastic). We make less than in previous years and have more medical expenses. Should I write this letter in an emotional way? Should I just stick with the facts? Or both? Any suggestions?
Facts plus documentation (i.e. don’t just say “we have a lot of medical expenses”. Attach a copy of the statement from the health insurance company showing that 10K of a procedure was not covered by insurance and is now due to the hospital).
They have to be unreimbursed essential medical expenses. You will need documentationnthat these were not covered by insurance, and that they were not elective.
Stick to the facts.
Your school may have a form for appealing the determination. If so, complete the form. It will ask for certain documents like loss of employment, medical bills, death of parent.
