What should sophomores, soon to be juniors be doing right now and over the summer to prepare for college? Any advice? thanks!</p>

<p>i’m going to be a junior next fall, and i’m going to debate camp, unfortunately studying for the SAT, reading books for school and also books on current events for speech.</p>

<p>take a TOUGH sophomore class load don’t get lazy like me sophomore year and then realize all of a sudden omg *** am i doing?! well not the acronyms but you know what i mean…</p>
<p>i should’ve taken chemistry in 10th grade i regret not taking that class in 10th grade… instead i took earth science, what college looks at earth science!? not even earth science honors, just regular earth science! *** was i thinking… atleast i got an A in it tho…</p>
<p>Now I have to take Physics Honors and AP Enviro. Scie. senior year, two tough science courses, to make up for my 10th grade mistake.</p>
<p>EDIT: oh wait i thought it said soon to be sophomores… umm… just keep taking hard classes.</p>
<p>Study for the SAT…its never too early. That was my mistake. I waited till junior year and did all my prep in school, got a horrible score. Buy an SAT prep book from collegeboard or something and study.</p>

<p>Well, if it helps, this is what I’m doing…internship (30ish UNPAID hrs a week) with mayor of city (running for governor!)…studying for SAT (taking in October first time)…next summer, I’m taking classes at Yale (college credit), and I will have a job (PAIDDD). I do all my community service during the school year (4 hrs a week)</p>

<p>newedition, I agree halfway with you…getting “blunted”, partying, etc…that’s all good…but you should be worrying about college…this is one of the two summers you have to REALLY impress colleges</p>

<p>I am training to be A volunteer at the Hellen Kellar center studying for sat/psat. Going to North Carolina on a adventure camp(it sounds childish but there really cool teen camps it has to do with horseback riding the only sport i play and ever will) and probably starting volunteer work at the dog shelter also</p>
<p>A few suggestions from a mom who has had two kids go through the stage you’re at right now:</p>
<p>Spend a little time visiting the Web sites of colleges you might like to apply to. </p>
<p>Maybe visit a campus or two. If you’ve never been on a college campus, at least do the tour and information session at a nearby college (whether or not you plan to apply to that particular school), just to get an idea of what college campuses and college tours are like.</p>
<p>If you’re the right age, consider getting your driver ed out of the way during the summer so that it won’t interfere with academics during the school year. This summer might be a good time for an SAT prep course too. Same reason.</p>
<p>If your school’s guidance office or career center is open during the summer, you might want to make an appointment to go there, look at college catalogs, and use whatever overpriced college-selection software the school has spent your tax dollars on.</p>
<p>Figure out what SAT Subject Tests you need for the colleges you’re going to apply to, and then figure out which of these tests you should take and when. Are there any tests you should have taken at the end of your sophomore year but didn’t? Maybe you took a really souped-up biology course or AP World History as a sophomore but didn’t think to take the SAT Subject Test. In that case, consider taking the test in the fall and spending some time working with a review book during the summer so that you don’t forget everything. </p>
<p>Also, is your junior year schedule going to provide you with good opportunities to do well on SAT Subject Tests? Hint: The easiest way to get a good SAT Subject Test score in social studies or science subjects is to take the test at the end of an AP course in the same subject. So if you’re going to take an AP course in a subject that also has an SAT Subject Test, try to take it in 11th grade, not 12th. Senior year courses are useless in terms of SAT Subject Tests. In other words, you want to take AP U.S. History or AP Chemistry in 11th grade and AP Psychology or AP Environmental Science in 12th grade, NOT the other way around. If necessary, call your guidance counselor, whine, and get your schedule changed.</p>
<p>If you’ve got the time, you can do some community service, or volunteer work. That always looks good on your college apps. But don’t forget to have fun also!! You’ll be working through the summers soon enough, enjoy them while you still can.</p>

Get a job: stretch yourself a little bit in terms of responsibility

<p>reading reading reading ugh we always have to do this stupid thing for my school when it comes to SChool work…well this summer im probably going to Sanfransisco…FT lauderdale and Daytona(on one trip i might be going not sure) And for sure im going to Denver…and in mid september San Diego…Colorado and SD r for sures b/c i have to go to weddings but the other ones r iffy… any colleges in those areas I can look at?</p>
<p>and yes i do know how spoiled i sound…San Fransisco is b/c i just want to go…FT Lauderdale b/c my best friend in the whole entire world lives there and Daytona b/c my grandpa lives there and the rest is of course for weddings.</p>
