So what sort of stuff will we need for our dorm rooms? Besides the obvious stuff–is there anything that you realized you needed once you got there or later on wish you had? And what size are the mattresses–twin extra long?

Here’s a list of items that you might not think about packing but that I used a lot during the year:
-a small handheld vacuum and a swiffer (and any other cleaning supplies you might want, like dish soap)
-its REALLY hot when you arrive so 1 or more fans. this is especially if you are not living in an air conditioned dorm.
-a mug, cup, bowl, and fork
-tape: masking, duct or whatever. helpful for putting stuff up on walls
-a picnic/beach blanket or towel
-ANT KILLER be prepared to combat ants
-ziplock bags or tupperware for protecting food against the ants
-a small whiteboard for your door (already provided if you live in wig)
-a hot water heater. great for tea/noodles
-markers or other coloring utensils are great for making bday cards and new friends
-bombin’ halloween and smiley 80’s costumes. its never too early to start planning outfits

if you want to cook or bake in the dorm kitchens often, you should consider bringing your own measuring cups, pans and such. we always just bugged a friend down the hall who brought them.

i also brought a small, cheap clothes drying rack because i air dry a lot of ma clothes

and… the mattresses are extra long

hope this helps!

thanks soo much!! i’ll post the same question on the fb site so i’ll see if the other upperclassmen have more suggestions

My daughter’s closet didn’t have a door so she hung a colorful cloth to cover it.

this is REALLY hilarious to me since twomules doesn’t know that I’M her daughter

HI MOM!

also, don’t worry about the closet door thing. i was the only person i knew that didn’t have a door.

And some students remove their doors because they take up space when they open them.

FYI - your parents will receive info that will include a list of handy items to bring for move-in day:

Small tool kit
Roll of paper towels and Kleenex
Liquid hand soap and small hand towels
Poster tabs to use on walls without putting holes in them
Small rug to put by bed
Phone card with lots of minutes on it (!)
Compressible clothes hamper (not a laundry bag that needs a hood or lies in a heap on the floor)
Framed photos of family and friends
Sleeping bag and aero-bed in a bag for overnight guests
Small white board for dorm room door (although some dorms have them already)
Room freshenener

don’t worry too much about what to bring. There are plenty of stores nearby to buy whatever you might need.
