as a designer i want to design a bag for college student with different pouches, so what kind of bag i should use or what size it should be???
What is said student wanting to Store in said bag? It matters if it’s to store/tote laptop vs other gear. I’d look around as to what exists and how you plan to differentiate your product and market. Why re-invent what no one’s interested in? Market research is VERY important–the geographic area, age, gender, finances etc of whom you’re targeting.
Male or female students?
Waterproof. Lightweight. Sturdy. Easy to cleaned.
Take a look at Longchamp tote and improve it.
What problem are you trying to solve? From what I see most students use backpacks.
Try to figure out how you can create something that is less costly, mand as durable, as say…a Longchamps tote…or a baggalini.
Do you all really think Longchamp totes are THAT durable? I have one but I feel like the handles would rip through if I were carrying a laptop, books, etc. A cute summer tote for towel and bathing suit and a magazine, but I don’t perceive them as “workhorse.”
I carry a Longchamps tote to work everyday…with my purse, an IPad, a netbook, my lunch, usually a few books or notebooks. Mine is old…and it still looks brand new. Very durable.
DD carries one to class with her everyday…with a laptop, iPad, laptop stand, lunch, purse, and sometimes a change of clothes. Hers looks brand new too.
Yep…they are durable!
They are also guaranteed…friend has gotten her seams resewn…one friend had a snap replaced. No charge…at a Longchamps store. Hers was way older than mine!!
Good to know!
Mixed reviews on Longchamps are interesting. I returned one that was a gift due to its size being too small for my needs. The Nordstrom associate told me that she and her daughter used them regularly for years, but have found the material used for the body of them prone to snagging and fraying more recently, with an uptick in returns at the store for the same reasons. Just curious as I have never owned one.
OP- happy to think about it with more specifics. Don’t know what you mean by pouch. They come in all sizes, styles and purposes.
Adding…Longchamps are machine washable too. I’ve tossed mine in the washer more than once.
And they are also great for summer with a beach towel, and sunscreen, water bottle, and snack!
To the OP…make sure whatever you design is machine washable, and has at last one waterproof compartment for things like water bottles.
If they’re going to use it for a laptop, one of the pouches should have padding.
OP I think that you ought to post this on the student forum. We mostly are a bunch of parents on the parent cafe thread. What we think would be good may be a total bust.
Also, what students want depends on gender, region, stage in college /new career. In the beginning, both my kids used backpacks, which they still use for flying as 20+ but for getting around prefer more streamlined briefcase-type styles post-college.
Agree it is best to ask the students than us old parents.
Make a removable padded pouch that works like a divider inside the tote. I found a laptop sleeve that fits precisely the size of my tote; it allows me to sort the stuff inside the tote - books to the one side of the sleeve, other stuff to the other.
Pizzagirl, those totes are sturdy. I carry 15-20 lbs worth of stuff in mine. And like thumper, I wash mine in the washer.
OP - just do not try to make a knock-off looking bag. Some people have deep aversion to imitations, and you might also run into IP issues.
One of my daughter’s used a Longchamp bag in college, the other used ( and actually still uses years later ) a decent sized Coach leather bag that we got at one of the outlets. But I suspect the OP should post this to students , rather than parents
