What social media platforms do you use?

I belong to a few forums in my area of interest(s), which includes CC. I have contemplated a lot about joining IG as a money making idea being a social media influencer.

I’ve wondered if we have any parent influencers here!!!

Would your platform be fitness/health or otherwise?

Yep, I’ve mentioned this possibility here previously. The subject has been brought up by people around me, including my new employer.

However, I don’t think I’d be able to ā€œsuffer the slings and arrowsā€ (comments), if I enabled them. I’ve seen some rude comments on other people’s IG accounts.

With every season of Survivor, my family tells me ā€œYou should do it,ā€ which is then followed by ā€œYou’d be the first one voted off the island.ā€

OMG, yes please to a CC Survivor contestant!

Apparently, some Googlers started a company that lets people generate this garbage with one click… or so they claim. Google owns YouTube… so that’s where it all ends up. Ugh.

ETA: apparently, there is a name for this crap - ā€œbrain rotā€ videos.

I’m kind of indifferent about having a YouTube channel, I guess.

I play classical guitar (hobbyist only). In 2012 I was playing several arrangements by this one particular guy, and he asked me to start a YT channel. I guess he thought it would spread awareness of his arrangements? Not sure it did - it’s not like I’m viral - ha ha! I had previously just been posting on FB for family and friends when I started it.

I’ve just kept it up.

I like that it’s an easy platform to use, it’s free, and it’s nice to get positive feedback. Also nice to have all my videos in one place. I’m not monetized at all (I only have around 1,100 subscribers). It’s also interesting to get the monthly data on # of views, duration of watch time, demographics of viewership, etc from YT. I have one video that has about 20,000 views. Which is nothing in the YT world, though I’m not sure why it got so many plays. I always share composer/arranger info which helps other guitarists find their sheet music.

Of course, I dislike negative comments, but I’ve only gotten a handful of truly mean-spirited ones. I think I’ve taken down only two or three that were particularly egregious or off-topic and blocked those people. Otherwise, I leave bad comments up with good. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I dislike comments not in English - lol. I feel obligated to reply in the language in which the comment is posted. I use Google translate to do that. I cannot stand comments about my lack of smiling when I play.

Young Boomer! I mostly use Facebook and Instagram. I don’t post much but use it to keep up with what is happening in the lives of friends, family and former co-workers. A number of the family are my husband’s relatives who he only keeps up with by me telling him what they’ve been doing. A lot of my Facebook connections have stopped using it in the past couple of years though. I also use both to keep up with groups related to my hobbies, travel, local businesses, etc. I rarely if ever post, just read.

I look at YouTube but don’t post. I mostly watch videos of local council and library board meetings that are posted there.

My sons use BeReal. Or used to. I was tempted when I first heard about it but then they told me they wouldn’t connect with me (or whatever you do) on it. :frowning:

I used to do social media for my job and posted on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. But have never used Twitter personally.

I’ve never gotten into TikTok maybe because of all the strange things on it that my son who is a huge consumer of it has told me about. Recently my dog’s vet’s office has been sharing some of their TikTok videos on their Facebook page and they are super cute.

I use Facebook, I have two Instagram accounts (one personal and one for my band) and Twitter which is the best platform for an aspect of my employment.

I have a BlueSky account but rarely check it, as neither it nor Threads from Instagram really work as a replacement for how I use Twitter.

And it will always be ā€œTwitterā€ to me…can’t wrap my head around ā€œXā€

I use Facebook. Instagram and Tik tok. I keep up with popular music and culture that way. I would never have discovered the beauty of songs like Alex Warren’s Ordinary or Djo’s End of Beginning without Tik Tok. Or watched the sweet charm of various classes of kindergartners sing Beautiful Things. Or laughed and laughed at the genius that is The Speech Prof’s Is Hello Kitty a Cat? ( if you haven’t seen that google it). Just to name a few of the reason I love these apps.

One huge downside to Tik Tok. I can NOT get that ā€œI have one daughterā€ earworm out of my head every time I am putting ellipses in my briefs. If you do not know this tune do not google it. It will haunt you!

Threads is an alternative to twitter. It is owned by Meta. Bluesky is like threads and twitter, but it’s totally independent of either of those, so it’s non Zuckerberg and Musk. I’ll be honest, I would like to use Bluesky and nothing else, but I think the issue is that many of my friends have been blowing off social media altogether. So I personally am not seeing a lot going on there.

I was talking about facebook with a friend yesterday. It’s all ads, memes, local groups, and not much else. I had to scroll through seven other non-friend related items before a friend actually came up. I’m not sure why I bother anymore.

I like the instagram in that there is photos, videos but no speeches…I think threads may be too much talk.

That’s why I use it more than instagram. I am not super interested in seeing what people took a photo of, unless it’s something funny, or beautiful, or interesting.

I agree. But I am a member of several local groups (fitness/social/book club, Buy Nothing, neighborhood groups). That and another fitness group are the main reasons I am there.

If you have the FB app on your phone, you can hit the three bar menu thingie in the bottom right hand corner. Then click on, ā€œfriends,ā€ and you’ll see friend info instead of all that other stuff.

Yes, buy nothing groups and community pages are great. The annkying thing about fb is that if I suddenly think about checking to see if someon has been active, I have to go to their profile. So maybe they posted 3 times in the last couple of weeks, but it’s all ads and I never see their post.

Facebook is the only platform I will occasionally post on. Instagram is read only to keep up with my kids. I now use Threads for entertainment. I won’t posts, but the responses to some posts are pure gold.

I have 3 social media platforms (X, Instagram, Threads) but I don’t post to any of them. I follow several accounts on X for news (e.g. local weather, traffic alerts). If they would start posting on Threads, I would close my X account.

You can go to ā€œfeedsā€ on Facebook and select ā€œfriendsā€ and then that’s all you will see. It’s pretty unusable w/o the Feeds. It’s on the left hand menu on your computer or at the bottom if you have the FB app on your phone.

I do social media for work so for work I have Facebook (where most of the work followers are), Instagram, Threads (very halfheartedly — just let the Instagram posts go over there), Blue Sky (we left Twitter/X), YouTube (just for posting content, not for interacting in comments) and I keep up with a few work related subreddits on Reddit. No TikTok. I see plenty of TikToks on Facebook and Instagram and YouTube.

Because I have to have accounts on those for work I have personal ones too. I am most active on Facebook and Reddit personally. I also like TripAdvisor. I read some on SubStack but don’t post content there or comment.
