What song describes your hopes for your child as you go through the college search process?

Theme songs for this process?

Mine:

[REM – “It’s The End of the World As We Know It”](http://www.vevo.com/watch/rem/Its-The-End-Of-The-World/USIR30200031)

My kid’s:

[Arcade Fire – “Ready to Start”](<a href=“Arcade Fire - Ready to Start (Official Video) - YouTube”>Arcade Fire - Ready to Start (Official Video) - YouTube)

@Cheeringsection‌ Hurrican by The Vamps

Hurricane*

@SomeOldGuy‌ I completely agree with the REM choice! DS is away at a leadership conference and the driveway is oddly empty, dinner conversation was different (though check was pleasantly smaller), weekend plans less crowded, etc. This will be quite an adjustment.

D1 had a particular difficult college process and she was a dancer, so this played in my head:

“I Hope You Dance”

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance…I hope you dance

@oldfort I Hope You Dance came out when I was expecting DD20. It described my hopes for her then and it very much fits who she is now. Another good one on the play list!

Send me on my way-- Rusted root , on a good day

Pressure by Billy Joel on a not so good day…
now where is that child of mine who has one more video to make for her next round of applications ?

How about " I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash? That one works for me now that my kids are out of the process. :)

It’s Your Thing - Isley Brothers

Another vote for "I Will Survive " as a good song for me during the college application process. @oldfort - I love “I Hope You Dance.”

As part of the housing application for D’s school, she was asked what song would play when she arrived on campus. She chose “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone. So now I associate that song with her launch.

<a href=“Feeling Good - Nina Simone (1965) - YouTube”>Feeling Good - Nina Simone (1965) - YouTube;

“Bed of Nails” also comes to mind a week or so before deadlines.

“Don’t worry. Be happy.”

When I’m feeling frantic, “I Hope I Get It” from Chorus Line.
And when I’m feeling sentimental–

Dar Williams’ The One Who Knows

<a href=“The One Who Knows - Dar Williams (with lyrics) - YouTube”>The One Who Knows - Dar Williams (with lyrics) - YouTube;

Time it was I had a dream
And you’re that dream come true
An’ if I had the world to give
I’d give it all to you

I’ll take you to the mountains
I will take you to the sea
I’ll show you how this life became
A miracle to me

You’ll fly away but take my hand until that day
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job’s done you’ll be the one who knows

All the things you treasure most
Will be the hardest won
I will watch you struggle long
Before the answers come

But I won’t make it harder
I’ll be there to cheer you on
I’ll shine the light that guides you down
The road you’re walking on

You’ll fly away but take my hand until that day
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job’s done you’ll be the one who knows

Before the mountains call to you
Before you leave this home
Wanna teach your heart to trust
As I will teach my own

But sometimes I will ask the moon
Where it shined upon you last
And shake my head and laugh and say
“It all went by so fast”

You’ll fly away, but take my hand until that day
(Until that day)
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job’s done you’ll be the one who knows

Well, just for today, when DD16 was gone all day at an activity and I’m considering what it might be like when she’s out of the house at college: (title?) “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone.”

How about Who Am I Anyway, Am I My Resume, from Chorus Line? For app time.

And, when I want to razz my DD16, during this process, I’ll bust out with “Let it Goooooo; let it goooo!” Have no love for the song, but the phrase fits. Child rolls eyes.

“My Way,” by Frank Sinatra was both our kids’ anthems. It worked and they are doing it their way indeed!

Help me Rhonda
