I keep having the same song go through my head because it neatly sums up how I hope this all works out. I am not technologically advanced enough to provide a link but it is Help Me Find It by Sidewalk Prophets. Anybody else getting through this with music?

My D is now a college senior, though the song I have always thought of in terms of her finding her way is Guide My Feet. It is a Christian song, so I hope that doesn’t offend anyone. It does apply to her as a long distance runner needing a higher powers guidance.

“Staying Alive,” but I can’t say why.

<duplicated></duplicated>

There are three songs that have always “spoken” to me even when I was a teen myself but which mean even more to me as a parent. The first is “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens. This was truest for my middle child, a daughter. She always wanted her own way and had to make her own mistakes. The next is “Circle Game” by Joni Mitchell. This applies best to my son, the oldest. It just fits him exactly. I even did a cake for his 16th birthday centered around this theme. The last is “Teach Your Children” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Youngest kiddo all the way. She has a path carved out and nothing short of being tied up will stop her. So I just look at her and sigh, and know she loves me.

I will survive. Oh wait, that’s for me!

haha! I was also thinking “I Will Survive” reading this thread and there you have it. I also love Teach Your Children. i was listening it to it this summer on the radio and thinking how very true it is!

@conmama We share good taste in music…love Teach Your Children!

I’m way past the college process, but “Red Solo Cup” by Toby Keith brings college-related things to mind!

Also- “Don’t Blink”- Kenny Chesney.

How about, “You Can’t Always get what you want”…the end line - but you get what you ne-ed!

“Youre Gonna Miss This” by Trace Adkins

“O (Hidden Track)” on Coldplay’s new Ghost Stories album - also “A Sky Full of Stars” on the same album.

How sweet! I wish my mind was on “Father and son”, “Circle Game”, or “Cats in the Cradle”.

My hopes? Maybe Timbuk3 “The Future’s so Bright (I gotta wear shades)”

<a href=“Timbuk 3 - The Future's So Bright - YouTube”>Timbuk 3 - The Future's So Bright - YouTube;

The reality during the tense nights is that “Tons of Steel” (Grateful Dead)

<a href=“Grateful Dead - Tons Of Steel (Studio Version) - YouTube”>Grateful Dead - Tons Of Steel (Studio Version) - YouTube;

and “Help Me Make it Through the Night” (Kristoferson, but in my head it’s Willie singing it) were tracking through my mind. I love this thread!

Not just through the college search, but all the time when I think of my sons-- Bruno Mars song, Just The Way You Are.

Another one bites the dust.

KIDDING!!!

“Help” ( Beatles)

I don’t think the lyrics are necessarily about a parent and child, but when I hear
You will Become by Glen Hansard, I think about my girls and how they have their whole life in front of them.

These are Days by Natalie Merchant:

Never before and never since, I promise
will the whole world be warm as this
and as you feel it, you’ll know it’s true
that you are blessed and lucky
it’s true, that you are touched by something
that will grow and bloom in you

Fantastic song choices by all !!

I would add “Cinderella” by Steven Curtis Chapman.

Love the links and the songs! Maybe this will allow the soundtrack in my head to at least shuffle occasionally.
