What songs instead of Millie?

I’m a senior in high school and will be auditioning for musical theatre programs in the next couple months. I’m still deciding which songs to sing…

I am a ‘legit’ soprano, but I also belt. I’m trying to avoid Millie (Not For The Life Of Me & Gimme Gimme), but might end up doing one of those, just because I’m extremely comfortable with Millie, and I know I can sing them well, and that role fits me.

However, does anybody have any suggestions to what songs I could do instead of Millie, that are uptempo and belt? They need to be uptemp and belt to contrast with my first audition song, which is legit and ballad. I am the “ingenue” type. I was thinking “You Can’t Get A Man With A Gun” or is that overdone as well?

I’d appreciate any suggestions. I’m just trying to pick a song that won’t make the auditioners’ eyes roll, I don’t want to do something over done, YET I want to show off my belt voice- and Millie’s vocal range fits my belt perfectly.

Thanks!

First of all, I think the word is out that Millie is overdone and now this year, I haven’t heard a female sing a song from it once in any of our auditions. Therefore, you may be able to get away with it, especially if you nail it. Do I want to hear it again? Not really, BUT not having heard it in a while helps.

Check out “You’ve got possibilities” from It’s a Bird…It’s a plane…It’s Superman. Its fun and it has a few nice C’s and D’s at the end.
