Hopefully we haven’t Kondo’ed our homes to the point of giving away ALL our kids youth belongings.
Also, hopefully we aren’t hanging onto ALL of their youth belongings!
The thread about home sales/parties and the mention of Discovery Toys many times had me thinking about the Marbleworks we definitely still have and I would never give away.
We have three children - 2 girls, one boy. Now lovely young women and man.
My attic space claims:
Marbleworks
Brio train set
Legos
Playmobile
Oodles of Fisher Price playsets (my kids adored these so much we collected them over the years)
Little Tykes Dollhouse and lots of accessories
American Doll stuff (just one doll for each girl - and a Bitty Baby)
Little Tykes Riding Motorcycle
Little Tykes Waffle Blocks - and the little weeble people/cars to go with it! I included snap together roadway
Books, of course
Those are the main things that come to mind. Probably also the most costly stuff!
What’s being stored or used with other little ones at your house from the 80’s/90’s, etc.!!?
I have American Girl dolls (6) and many outfits.
Many games, including Pretty Pretty Princess
Many (way too many) books
Some barbies, mostly specialty ones like Wizard of Oz and Chinese barbies
Wizard of Oz things of all kinds. My daughter loved it, started each day with “Is my Dorothy dress clean” (still have the dorothy dress too), and people gave her all kinds of things like music boxes.
Oh yes, those wooden trains!
Fisher Price toys, including ones with the lIttle people form my childhood.
Legos.
Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars and track
Board games
blocks and Lincoln logs (some from my childhood)
Brio, Lego, American Girl stuff, the Little People that are now probably banned for being choking hazards. There’s the really ugly dollhouse that D2 won’t let me donate. I sent S1 all those action figures some years ago and he either trashed them or sold them on ebay (probably the former, they were well loved). Special stuffed animals.
We have a big plastic bin of legos and another of lincoln logs that my son played with. My sister now has them for her foster son to play with.
I also have a couple of stuffed animals for each kid and a doll of my daugter’s. Otherwise we didn’t save much. We move so often and have so many yard sales as we move. I have often had to work while the yard sale was going on any my sisters in law are ruthless and sell just about everything.
So, basically just one plastic bin per kid is in my closet and that is it.
original wood Thomas trains and tracks; bins and bins of legos. We did give away the play mobil to younger families. Special stuffed animals and shelves and shelves of beloved books.
During the polar vortex, I used the time stuck at home to go through bins of their school stuff, from pre-school through high school, and tossed a bunch, though kept drawings, stories etc. from various ages.
Brio/Thomas trains. Real tonka trucks, American Girl dolls and accessories. I also made a tub for each kid and saved report cards, school pictures and a few art projects.
Aside from books, we have american girl dolls, build a bears, a collection of elephants (stuffed and others), and several boxes of those free fast food meal toys themed around all the movies of those times (star wars, disney, toy story, etc.) My husband is as attached to those clever wind up or push toys as my daughter was, he would never let me get rid of them.
We also have a million plus a million more Beanie Babies. I have told my kids that if they have children every time one of them come visit me they will go home with a Beanie Babies as payback for all those BB’s they had me buy!!
Beanie Babies, toy and model horses, one American Girl doll and some accessories, several Holiday Barbie dolls. Basically, I have saved things if my ex didn’t put them in the basement. Most stuff in the basement ended up with mouse or moisture caused damage.
In addition to Lion King, I think I have a tub of Littlest Pet Shop somewhere… and of course, all Pokémon crap has been diligently saved as well as the first Beanies.
We have a ton of legos in a couple of bins…but we also have all of the directions from each set.
Somewhere along the way, we lost a large bin of really neat Duplo blocks that were sent to us from Europe…and not available here. God knows what happened to it!
Several American Girl Doll
A Shanghai Tang Teddy Bear
A Harrods Teddy Bear
A Thomas The Tank Train Set
A Train Table
My S’s Fire Fire Engine
Tons of Lego
Lego, Brio (with all the Thomas engines, etc.), the Moomintrolls, some really battered Dalmatians (original Disney ones, before the live action version), and a few significant plush animals.
