What Specific Toys Of Your Kids Have You Hung On To?

Anyone else remember Tuff Stuff? We still have the little shopping cart. Geez…over $50 on eBay!

Oh, yeah, we had that cart. After 4 kids, and all the stuff they carried around (including trying to put little sister in it), it was toast.

@dentmom4 ours looks brand new!

We sold all the American Girl stuff - it was just too big. Sold the Littlest Pet Shop. Tried to give away the My Little Ponies but some of them came back. And gave away the beanie babies.

Still …

We have a few bins of Playmobil, including a pirate ship
the Marble Run and those excellent Discovery Toy stacking cups
A huge Rudolph and Santa’s castle set up that sometimes gets dredged out for Xmas
Brio train set with some Thomas trains, also a Brio mech set somewhere
Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders action figures and accessories
Polly Pocket - the old ones where everything was tiny

And someone we gave a little wooden kitchen to just gave it back. It sits in my living room next to the piano in case kids come over. There’s a bin next to it of the My Little Ponies that somehow came home, and a bunch of D2’s BF’s action figures. They make for interesting play!

Brio tracks and cars.
Legos
Little People farm, school and castle
Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars
wooden blocks
books
Transformers
a few stuffed animals

My grandson LOVES the Brio stuff. He plays and plays and plays…
And the model cars.

Next out of storage will be the Little People stuff.

Thomas the tank engine wooden trains and track.
Legos.
K’Nex - My son and his GF threw away all the “special” pieces to the sets that were $$$ and just kept the building pieces.
We recycled probably a thousand bucks of Pokémon cards. We still have a big shoe box of Magic Cards, and maybe some other kind of cards.
I have a whole big bin of beanies. They could care less about them, but I can’t give them up.
We have lots of books, for all ages. I was going to donate most of them, but my son claims he will go through them soon.

Only some dress up clothes that they still use for parties. Five years ago I stopped the madness and got my home neat and organized. Everything went out that wasn’t being actively used. The good stuff went to the local children’s hospital. Everything else to goodwill. No regrets. This total clean out brought me much happiness.

Almost every Harry Potter LEGO set. The few she didn’t have were some discontinued sets from before she started collecting. I swear that if the air bed wasn’t taking up most of the floor space in her room at winter break, she and her boyfriend would have set the sets all up!

American Girl Dolls and accessories
Some souvenir toys from various countries that we visited
A loom
A real artist’s easel
Books

Legos
Pokémon cards—kids reclaimed them all—some were worth bucks
Hot wheels
A doll or two
My D liked to make her own stuffed animals—I saved those
Wish I’d kept the fisher price farm.

My aunt threw out my cousins baseball cards without checking with him—he said they were worth about 10K at the time

I feel better reading this! When the kids were all home over break, I made them go through the books and everything in the toy closet. Married D to her HP book collection and AG dolls back home with her.

Kept-
Favorite books from all age levels
Disney castle and little figure
Little Pet Ship critters (we did donate the house)
DD18 has 2 laundry hampers of stuffed animals she refuses to give up
Legos
Favorite matchbox cars
Marble run
Knex coaster
American Girl dolls and clothes
Little People house

I wish I had saved some of their old wooden toddler puzzles but apparently donated those a long time ago.

I had a whole van load of donations. That under the stairs closet was packed to the top!

That Playmobile stuff cost a fortune! No way would I let that go unless offered big $$.

We did sell oodles of Polly Pocket stuff on eBay a couple years back. A nice $$ return. D2’s toy so she got the $.

My H has an eBay business (his retirement “hobby” that drives me up a wall). Toys are a big draw - especially old board games in pristine shape. He recently sold an old Candyland game still wrapped in factory plastic for $100 - who buys this stuff?!

We do still also have a bunch of board games in the basement that are too juvenile for the kids.

My kids games were way too used to be saved for anyone.
Saved some transformers, a metal fire truck and a remote control robot which is pretty cool.
Marble raceways are the best!
My own mom saved my Barbie doll and a Jimminey Cricket marionette of mine which was a surprise.

I know the attic contains Brio train/tracks, legos, and a hot wheels garage. Also my old Twiggy doll and some clothes. Absolutely cannot remember saving any of my daughter’s stuff. Surely I did.

Having a grandson in April so I’m really glad I saved the “boy” stuff!

First world problems, I know, but if I could just get the kids to Kondo those plastic tubs taking over the basement, I’d be happy. Yes, D3, you’ve mentioned you want to make a quilt out of all those summer program tee shirts, and it would be beautiful, but every time I offer to send them off to you, you tell me the sewing machine is broken.

My mom collected beanie babies and then gave them to me to store so they are in a closet somewhere. And all the board games. Donated a lot of books to the elementary school reading teacher but kept some of the favorites.

@stradmom Send those T shirts along with a check to fix the sewing machine - problem solved! :))

@abasket - my H had a bunch of nerdy strategy based board games from Avalon Hill and the like and he sold most of them a few years ago. Some went for $$$$, I couldn’t believe it! His friends were a bit upset with him, but he saved his favorites and we cleared out a few shelves so all is well.

We collected the metal Thomas trains for the most part (they came out before Brio, though we have some of those, too). Still have the trains, the Fisher Price tracks they used with them, lots of Legos and K-Nex, most of their books, lots of plastic dino/animals that S2 got with his allowance when he was in the animal phase of his youth.

S2 has not wanted to get rid of his trophies. I’m happy to photograph them, but no dice.

I’m also guilty of still having tshirts from the places we visited on vacation (we tended to get shirts as souvenirs). I want to make a quilt out of them, but it seems I make quilts and fabric art for everyone EXCEPT my family. Should probably do something about that while I’m able!

I threw out the trophies maybe a year ago - mine, my daughters, and my husbands. They really weren’t significant (not like having an Oscar). Mine was a math trophy (ha).
