I am hoping to major in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting or vice versa in 2017.
I am an international student but my mother tongue is English so doing the English subject test wouldn’t be the best…right?
I am thinking that I should so a second language (Spanish) , I speak Spanish ( not fluently) and one of the Mathematics subjects… but which one? What’s the difference between I and II? What should I take for my major?
I am also thinking about applying to 1 Ivy League school and I know they have specific requirements but I am speaking in regards to general colleges.
If you are prepared for the material, take just the Math 2 and don’t bother with the Math 1. The scores are generally higher on the Math 2 because the the percentiles for the scores are different, so there are more people scoring 800.
The courses to prepare for Math 1 test are Geometry, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. The courses to prepare for the Math 2 are the same plus Pre-Calculus with trigonometry. It is helpful to take many practice tests in preparation in order to get your speed up to make sure you can complete all the problems in the allotted time. Use strategies like skipping problems you don’t know and coming back to them later if there is time. You don’t have to get 100% to get an 800 in the Math 2.
Some colleges that require or recommend subject tests, require or recommend a math for anyone applying for busines (regardless of which business major you want), and some like to see math 2… You should thus plan on taking a math, preferably math 2, as one of your subject tests. Math 2 is a little more advanced than math 1, covering some concepts that one would normally associate with a pre-calculus course. For the second test, make sure you check collegtes you are applying to to see if anything is preferred for business; for example Carnegie Mellon requires a Math 2 and “prefers” the second test to be a science when applying to its business college. In fact, if you took math 2 and a science, you would meet the requirements or recommendations of any college that requires or recommends subject tests. However, for many, any other test in addition to the math would be fine, including a language or English Lit.
