My D will be applying to college this coming Fall, our first. I am e-filing my taxes. Should I print hard copies for Finaid submission? Or, in another word, how do I submit our tax documents to finaid if I file electronically?

Oh, wait, one more thing. She will be applying in the Fall of 2010. That means that tax year 2010 (current year) is what I should be worrying about and not this year (2009), correct?

You should always print out and keep a hard copy of your taxes. It just makes sense in case questions from anybody including the IRS ever comes up in the furture.

In terms of a fall 2010 submission for college starting Fall 2011, yes 2010 taxes are what you will need.

Yes, print out and retain your tax forms…you can use them now to get an estimated EFC with the online calculators at college board and/or fafsa4caster. Btw, when you’re verified schools will ask for a signed copy of your tax returns…they don’t care if you e-filed, but make sure you sign those copies before sending them in!
