What tests should I be taking this fall?

I am applying early to either Harvard or MIT. I have a 34 act an sat of 2100 that is very unbalanced. I also have 2 800 subject tests and 1 750. Do you think I should.

A. Take the October ACT hopefully get a 36. Not submit my Sat and take an October subject test to hopefully get an 800.

B. Take October ACT and retake SAT but probably still won’t submit

C. Accept my test scores and apply.

D. Just take one subject test

E. Just retake the ACT

Or any combination of those. Please help, my GC keeps giving me very ambiguous answers…

A 34 is already in the 99th percentile. The difference between a 34 and a 36 is minimal and getting a 36 (which in reality is unlikely to happen if you are even the littlest accident prone) isn’t worth the $50 and weekend morning. The subject tests are great, too. In subject tests the difference between a 750 and 800 can be as little as a couple of problems. Accept all your scores and spend your time doing college essays or curing cancer or something. If you get denied, it won’t be because of your test scores.

^ i agree, UNLESS, you individual ACT does not favor whichever major you intend to apply for. For example, if you want to do engineering but math was your lowest score, you might want to retake it. If not, I wouldn’t bother.

My D has similar issue. SAT 2230 and ACT 34. She was advised not to retake either but her ACT math was 28 while the other subjects were 36/36/34 so she will re-take the ACT working to improve the math score (potential pre-med track). You have plenty of SAT IIs and scores are excellent so don’t waste time on those. MIT claims that they consider a 750 and above the same score for their purposes. For the most selective schools, once you hit a number that shows them you are a competitive applicant, they stop looking at scores and try to figure out who you are. So nhdmaniac was right - spend your time crafting interesting essays and a stand-out application  GL
