What tests to take?

Hi, I’m a Sophomore and wondering about which SAT Subject tests to take to best shape my college admission chances. Ignoring skill and the foreign languages, what combination of Subject tests are best?

My current favorite combo:

World History
(1 Foreign Language)
Math 2
(Best non-AP science)

What are your ideas?

Depends on where you’re applying and what you think you want to major in. Why so soon?

@MITer94 UPenn and Brown (Major in Finance/Accounting, something business related) are my top choices. I want to take them as soon as I finish the course on it, so the knowledge retains. For example, I’m taking Biology and World History this year (not going to take the APs for them) so I might take the SAT Subject test for them this year. I just want to prepare a list of which I need to take.

The SAT2 you may want to take would depend on the following:

 1. Your intended major: For science or engineering, the schools usually want Math2 and a science.
 2. The schools you are applying: Some schools have specific requirements for specific programs. For example, you will need Math2, Chem, and Physics for certain programs at Northwestern.
 3. The subjects you perform better: These are likely the AP classes you are taking, or other classes you excelled.

If you do plan to take more than 2 SAT2, starting in sophomore is about right as you should finish them by the end of junior. Although schools only want 2 SAT2 scores, but you can pick the best 2 if you have more and the schools have no preference.

@billcsho thanks for your input, but I already know all of that. I want to know what combination will best provide a good view of you, assuming you can get a high score for all of them.

First, fulfill the requirement. Second, try different core subjects (e.g. Math, Science, social science, language, etc). At the end, this would have very little weight in admission once you fulfilled the minimum requirement except for some top schools like Harvard. You should not spend too much time on this. Just make sure you have at least 2 great scores for the required subjects.
