What the hell am I doing? WARNING: Brick Wall of Text

Pssh… How do I delete a thread? I think I have to streamline my post until it ISN’T a brick wall of text with over 1500 words. >.< And I refused to write 1250 word research projects in ninth grade.

sucks that i read all that and really don’t have any productive advice other than

get over yourself, do something worthwhile

Well, thank you for reading over my crappy educational background.
Get over myself? That’s easy.
Do something worthwhile?
Worthwhile to me, or worthwhile to society as a whole?
Like I said in the crappy background, I have no goals. I might even say that I have no morals. I wouldn’t care if the human race vanished. At least all the other species on this earth can finally live in peace.
The reason I removed the text was because I knew that people would read it as “Haha! I’m better than you guys. I can get good grades even if I don’t study. I’m better than everyone. Nobody can compete with me!”
I actually wanted it to mean “I have no motivations whatsoever. My bout in the ECHS drained me of all desire to continue learning in the environment there.”
I wanted to know if I would even be able to go to a “good” university if I were to continue doing the crap I’ve been doing (completely unproductive, goes to classes, doesn’t study, gets “good” grades, no ECs, etc.)

Oh, and here’s what should be in the first post.

Hello, I’m Aaron Lee, some 16 year old Chinese lazy guy living in California.
I’m here to ask “What the hell am I doing?”
Some quick info:

  • Holds a Certificate of Proficiency (legal equivalent of HS diploma in CA)
  • Signed out of HS. Freshman @ an early college HS. Sophomore @ independent study school.
  • 25 semester units at CCC (3.85 gpa). 11 semester units with grades yet to be reported. All courses IGETC transferable.
  • Extremely lazy
  • Quick learner
  • No ECs
  • Father (divorced/holds custody) does not support what I’m currently doing, would like me back in normal HS. Yet was the one who signed me out of HS.
  • Mother (in Shanghai) wants me to take SAT “because it will make her happy.” Bragging rights? Also wants me to go to Stanford.
• Both parents have never attended university.
  • 193 on PSAT (didn’t sleep that night, no review whatsoever)
  • 3.5ish GPA on my HS transcript (does it still matter?) due to extreme laziness.
  • Still have regrets about never going to a “normal” HS.
  • Father wants me to learn more about the stock market. He says there’s money to be made. Exponential income rather than linear income.

If I continue on the community college courses, what colleges would I be able to transfer to if I hauled ass?
Would I even have any chances at any private schools/UCs?
Do I really need to ECs? >.<

Side question: Should I tutor my cousins? Their parents are paying $360 a month just for them to do random math questions which IMO, do not help them do ANYTHING.

I’ve never had any goals of my own. No saving the world. No getting rich. No dating hot women. I just did things because I was expected to. I’m still taking college classes, but they are just to pass the time. I basically have two choices: return to normal HS or continue at the community college.

Normal HS.
Pros

  • All hail getting back a social life. College people are too old…
  • Friends still remember me and want me back?
  • Work is extremely easy, although tedious. Or so I think.
    Cons
  • Wasted all that time doing all the college stuff
  • Back to being treated like a teenager.
  • What the hell am I suppose to take? I have like ~200 high school credits.

Staying in CCC.
Pros

  • I can just continue doing what I’m doing (laziness ftw!)
  • No more funky paperwork!
  • Can take math classes that do not require HW, don’t know if I can still do that in Calculus.
    Cons
  • No social life… (Unless I really tried to get one)
  • Don’t know what I want to major in.

My strengths

  • Quick Learner
  • “Decent” grasp of Chinese (can write Chinese, type Chinese, speak Cantonese, speak some Mandarin, able to communicate if in China)
  • Math? I haven’t had to study at all up to the pre-calculus level.
  • Sciences? Concepts are easy to grasp

My weaknesses

  • Laziness
  • Unable to force myself to start on essays.
  • Arrogant? Cocky? Condescending? I’ve been told that I’m these things.

–LONG BACKGROUND INFO, PROVIDES A DEEPER INSIGHT INTO MY “CHARACTER” SKIPPABLE?–
K-8 was exceedingly easy. I could ace every test without the least bit of studying. I slept in every class. I just recently found out that people knew me as the smart guy who likes sleeping.
It was April 2005, two months away from my eighth grade promotion (to HS). It was at this time that we were to select what classes (normal, CP, honors, AP) we wanted at our assigned HS. There were two HSs in our district, and I was to go to the one with an API of ~600. The other one, which most of my friends were to attend, had ~800. So of course, I didn’t really want to go to my assigned HS.
Then, one of my friends who I did so enjoy competing with, brought another HS in our district to my attention. It was an early college high school (ECHS), a high school that entered into an agreement with a nearby community college in order to promise both a HS diploma and an associate’s degree by graduation. They did this by filling the first two years with high school classes that had no college equivalent (AKA crap classes), and then having the students register for college courses only the last two years. My friend said he might apply. And so, I picked up one of their applications, and applied.
Fast forward. I was accepted into the program, and was filled with excitement, something I haven’t ever felt since. We were to attend a two week Introduction to College counseling course during the summer. There, we took a college assessment. By that time, I found out that my friend never bothered to apply. “Oh well, at least there would be new people to compete with,” I told myself. Like one of the students from my middle school who had been awarded 4 thingies (math, English, citizenship, etc) during the promotion. She “dropped out” after one week of the counseling, returning to normal high school, afraid that the program would be “too hard.”
The counseling course ended, and I received my assessment results: English 1A (Composition and Reading) and Math 203 (Intermediate Algebra). Both of which, were the highest you can assess into.
Even so, I had to attend the high school courses (which were just college prep) which the ECHS had. There were only 20 freshmen total. There were also 60 sophomores (100 at the start).
The classes were easy. The things taught, easily understood. Yet everyone else was complaining that things were hard. I quickly lost any motivation to work, half-assing everything at the last moment. There just wasn’t any one worth competing with! Truth to be said, I developed a sort of superiority complex which I still have. In the first half of the semester, I had straight A’s. By the end of the year, I had a 3.0? Not sure. C in biology (didn’t do any research projects, homework assignments which were mostly writing editorials, letters to editors, etc. after reading “science articles,” and A’s on every test) C in English (purposely didn’t follow the prompt on the final essay. Wrote about how one-dimensional characters in the book were instead of how the characters developed over time). C in Writing Composition (Laziness. >.< Didn’t write the 30 page final essay). A in geometry (ZzzZz). A in speech (Lawls… speech!). A in PE (duh…). No, I’m not bragging about my laziness. I’m merely providing background information. Oh, and I got an A’s in both the Int alg class and the Chinese 1 class I took at the community college.
By summer, I was sick of the school. Although the people were nice, they just didn’t provide an environment that would give me reason to excel (AKA stupid >.<).
And so, I set my sights on a way to still take community college classes, but not have to deal with all the HS busy work. I found an independent study school which would allow me to take community college classes, and also reward me with HS credit (what the ECHS was doing). By this time, my father (divorced parent, night shift) no longer supported me, but went along anyways. At the independent study place, I took some crappy World History class and Health class so they wouldn’t kick me out for not taking anything. At the community college, I took Econ 1 (macroeconomics), Math 50 (trigonometry), English 1A, and Chinese 2. All of them were taken on the same days, Tuesday and Thursday. I attained A’s in all of the classes without studying at all. I slept through econ half the time (7:30am), was just waking up in trig, did all the essays (only four 6-page essays, and I didn’t write one of them. A’s on all the ones I wrote) for English 1A the morning they were due. Chinese 2 was probably the hardest. In the end, I got all A’s for all but English 1A (B because of the one essay that wasn’t written).
The next semester (Spring '07), I only took English 5 (Critical Thinking in Reading/Writing), Philosophy 1, and Math 2 (precalculus). Grades are still unkown. All college classes I took were IGETC courses. The independent study program awarded me HS credits, causing me to end up with ~200?
However, because HS students could only take 11.5 units at max (managed to get Student Services VP to allow me to take more Fall '06), I decided to get outta HS. And so, the CHSPE was taken.

– END LONG BACKGROUND –

Personally, I feel the need to ask what you want out of life.
Since you are on CC, it seems that you want to lead a successful career with a decent job, and if you have similar goals as most of the people on CC, it may be best to go back to HS for a couple of years.
As you are still young, HS would present more oppurtunities to socialize with people your age, as well as prepare you for “better” colleges. Many colleges may be reluctant to accept you straight from community college without a “formal” high school schooling, but if you go back, a talented student like you should have no trouble succeeding. It would also prove a great topic for your essay if you wrote about your educational experiences.

that’s my two cents :)

What do I want out of life…
sigh A question I have constantly asked myself, yet never could answer. A question that has generated a many loud words with my family. I don’t know what I want out of life. I’ve always questioned my existence. Why must I be “above average” and lazy at the same time? My father holds people to what he thinks their potential are. He yells at me if I get a B, yet congratulates my cousins when they do the same. Yeah, I haven’t answered the question…

Since I don’t know what I myself want in life, I basically “take on” (not really) what OTHER people want. Money, significant other (or others… >.>), not fame though. I just want to be “happy” (never knew what that felt like). In order to contrast that, I don’t think I was sad at all when my parents divorced when I was 7.

Yeah, I know high school would present more opportunities to socialize. I never really had a social life. I lay the blame on 6 years of Chinese school, and using my aunt’s address to go to a school in a “better” district. Was afraid of getting found out, and the 1 hr between school and chinese school wasn’t that much…) Many of my past friends (or were they aquaintances?) have told me that back in middle school, they very much wanted to be my friend. However, I just had this “attitude/aura” that distanced myself. I either was sleeping in class, or reading some fantasy/sci-fi book.

I’m confident that I would have no trouble in HS whatsoever… if I was motivated. And that is why… I’m having a whole lot of regrets. Stay in community college… or return to HS… My life is a bland one.

And oh? Colleges would be reluctant? I’m not even sure if I applied to a university, would I apply as a freshman, or as a junior transfer (I’m nearly done with IGETC, probably like 3 or 4 courses, although that would mean I’ll be going to a public school). sigh Decisions…

I loved it when they were all made for me. Why did my father have to give me free reign? Although he has been against all these, he allowed me to go to the ECHS, allowed me to leave it and go only to CCC, and signed me out of HS. The promises I gave him however, have not been fulfilled… I guess the only way I can repay the leeway he has given me is do my best… But laziness…

Holy **** I wrote a lot.
