but THEN…she had the nerve to read all of my private text messages! what the hell???

can i have NO privacy???jesus christ.

hahah…she read them?? nosy mom.

thatswhy you should have deleted them…how bad could it be?

I hope you weren’t having text messaging sex or anything…

yeah a lot of moms do that, you should’ve known by now to delete . . .

if you were paying the phone bill, I’d say she might have been out of line…but only if you’re paying the phone bill for the entire family.

^^^ that is absurd. i would lose all trust in my mom if i caught her reading my text messages…which would just lead to a VERY strained relationship.

she read them IN FRONT of me (but not out loud) and was tsking, going “we have ALOT to talk about”. then i tried to tackle her to get my phone back (i was even willing to snap it in half so that it wouldnt be on anymore). my little rother grabbed me and made me stop tackling her. she still has the phone and is being a *****, but we havent talked about it yet.

she knows like nothing about me and all the stuff on that phone, theres stuff about drinking, hook ups, all that good stuff she doesnt know i do.

i dont pay for my phone, but that is one of the most private things i have, and i deserve to have that privacy respected. i never thought to delete the messages because i never had to unless the memory was full. i used to sleep with my phone in bed with me haha.

yeahhhh i cant wait for that convo…

Just because a parent might pay for something doesn’t mean they really have the right to read private matters. My parents pay for the computer, and I have a bunch of aim conversations, emails, etc saved that …if they read I’d be dead meat lol. I mean, part of growing up is establishing the trust between the parent and between the child. We’re not in grade school anymore where we have to tell everything to our parents, although we shouldn’t technically lie. . .

ductape, that’s awful, especially that she did it right in front of you. How old are you anyway? If you’re about to go to college, well then . . there’s not much she can do, especially cuz it’ll probably get worse x2 in college. that’s definently something my mother would do, she gets home before I do and reads any mail I get, etc, so I’ve just learned to take that annoying extra step to make sure it’s all covered up. I even make sure to talk on my cell when she’s not around.

anyway, good luck, what’s done is done, so I guess just be honest with her and tell her it’s a part of growing up, I’m sure she herself isn’t completely innocent either . . . . (at least when she was your age)

im actually in college, which is why most of those texts arent exactly tasteful…lol

i just finished my first year. i did deserve to have my phone taken away though (i don’t pay for it, and i had a huuuggggeeee bill), but i didnt think she would go through my **** like that.

grr

Sure its an outrage blah blah blah, but still, you always need to expect the worst. Always delete messages and emails you don’t need to hold on to after you read them.

You messed up and now face the consequences. I really have no sympathy. If you’re going to have stuff like that saved on your cell phone that you’re not paying for, then you need to be able to cover your butt and watch it. If you were careless with the bill, then you deserve your parents to butt in on your life because you’re not responsible enough to handle it yourself.

woah pal you need to coooool down . . it was an honest mistake, no need to be so harsh on the kid.

but he is an adult and therefore should be able to say whatever. of course, he should have deleted, but she still had no business.

Agreed - it’s just like her reading your mail. Get your own phone on your own phone bill.

holy crap. my mom found some texts where i was asking a friend for adderall…now she thinks ive been taking illegal prescrips for a while (i never even got the adderall), and she thinks thats why i’ve “not been myself” lately…my whole family now thinks im a pathological liar

cover your tracks routinely…i’ve found it is infinitely valuble to be careful. even if its not illegal, anything that looks illegal will BE illegal in their eyes.

Really, it’s no one’s fault but your own. It’s her phone since she pays the bill. You’re basically borrowing it from them. The txt msgs belong to her because they were sent to a phone she owns. The msgs maybe intended for you but they are addressed to her because she owns the plan and msgs are sent to phone numbers. So it is not like opening someone else’s mail.

She still has the phone because it belongs to her, plain and simple. She can do whatever she wishes with it now.

And nearly tackling your own mother…that just sickened me. Here’s a woman that is paying a huge bill for you and you almost tackle her to the point of needing to be restrained?

I’m sorry but no sympathy.

Jeebs: Do you think a mom can open mail?

It’s not mail. She owns the phone. Text msgs are sent to phone numbers. So technically they are addressed to her. They may be intended for him but they are addressed to her.
