Money to play at casino.
(He’s going to open his gift and find that we got him a new iPhone XR instead)
What my 28 yo SIL wanted https://www.crateandbarrel.com/hatch-rocks-glass/s215436
I’ve made blankets (fleece, double layer) for everyone. One brother is getting a My Pillow (as he’s seen on the Rich Eisen show for years now). My mother bought 4 of the super battery chargers that are strong enough to jump a car battery, so those will go to my brothers, nephew and maybe my daughter.
I’m having trouble shopping for ‘the boyfriends.’ One has been around for 3 years and lives with my daughter, the other is fairly new so I don’t know him as well, and he and daughter are moving from freezing cold place to Orlando. I can’t even buy him socks because he has HUGE feet. I’m following the ‘Games’ thread as I’ve bought a couple of games for the stockings and some decks of cards.
I believe my daughter is buying fishing equipment for her boyfriend. I keep seeing things ordered on the Amazon account and when I click on them it’s fishing poles and reels.
I’ve been sending Stanley Cup merch to S2, who’s in East Central Europe where shipping is expensive. Just sent him a Caps/puppies calendar, the big hardback Caps SC book, and toys for the grandcat. He’s going to meet a cousin and her DH in Budapest and then go to Israel in January, so will also send cash.
S1 is SO hard to shop for. He has money to get whatever he wants, but doesn’t. He took us to a RennFaire in September when we visited, which gave me the idea to make a costume for him. He’s very much into that stuff. He could probably use some jeans, socks and sneakers, but he packs so tightly I’m not sure I could get him much.
Oldest wants an electric toothbrush and an electric razor.
Youngest wants a backpacking camp stove and camp cook kit.
I have very different children.
Mine wants Nintendo switch games, acrylics and canvases.
Pants, hat, comforter, books for a kindle, specific board games, specific video games, sweaters
Hue lightbulbs for my nephew.
I looked them up and they were over $1000! Then I realized the price was in Hong Kong dollars, so the price is actually about 1/8th of that.
I don’t know if my kids would go for them - they are not very fashion forward.
My oldest son (28) asked for ladies’ wool socks, hand and foot warmers and thermal long johns. He’s a mailman. He says women’s socks are thinner and fit better in his boots, which I bought him last year. For a fun gift, he wants a set of art pencils.
The middle boys (24, 22) are getting a round trip on Frontier in January to visit a friend in the service. Round trip fare for the 2 was less than $130.
I am not sure about youngest son. I think he will get his gift next school year and it will be paying for a single supplement on his dorm room.
For my D and her bf, we got them an amplifier for when they play out as they had been borrowing H’s. H bought it used and it was about the equivalent of the middle boy’s individual fare.
My DS is getting an All-Clad 5 qt saute pan.
I have 3 kids and 2 kid in laws - I request (require) suggestions (lists).
Everyone eventually responds - got the last reply today. All gave me options, so there will be surprises - one couple is getting an appliance as a shared gift.
Stockings always contain candy, a toothbrush and lottery scratch offs, This year there is only one other item in each.
I know my 24 year old grad student is a true adult now, because he wants socks and underwear - lol.
My 27 year old bought a house about 15 months ago, so he still has a long list of things to equip the kitchen and garage.
S15 has ALWAYS been difficult to shop for. When he was 2, he wanted a Charizard (except he pronounced it “zar-zar,” so I had no idea what he was talking about.) Then when he was 4, all he wanted was a woolly mammoth–imagine Santa’s face when he asked for THAT. So, right now, I’m at a loss for him. Probably some clothes, maybe some NHL stuff, and stuff for coaching??
S17 will probably get a new phone, clothes for mock trial (dressy shirts, ties), and maybe some NHL stuff…
Mine has sent me running lists. New Ray Ban sun glasses, a watch, a Smathers and Branson belt, Kiel Patrick sweater and shirt, New dress pants. (Obviously he likes to look good!)
My ds wants a dress coat for work. I’m having a hard time locating exactly what I’d like. He’s ini SoCal, but travels. My preference would be a rain coat with a zip-out liner. I want something that is at least water repellant. I don’t want wool. Not spending $1,900 on a Burberry though. We are in Florida and coats are hard to come by. Trenches seem to be out of style? It’s the only thing we are planning on getting him other than doing a stocking.
Young men are challenging to buy for.
My 20 year old son never asks for much. This year he asked for new headphones (Bose) and some “nice” clothes for class observations next year. His PS4 also broke this semester so that was my Black Friday deal for him. Oh - and the text today that he wants to add Vanilla Whey Protein Powder to his list. Oy.
S is a cyclist. Luckily he provides URL’s to the specific items he wants - because it’s all gibberish to me.
In general, we are at the point as a family where no one really wants much of anything. I get them all socks, every year and they love it. Hubby still gets a lot of, what I call, trinkets. When he was a kid there just wasn’t much to go around so now - with the kids being 24 and 27 - he still wants to make the presents ‘pour out into the room from under the tree’. So, we humor him. At the suggestion of D, I’ve wrapped half a dozen cans of dog food for the pups that will be here Christmas morning…helps that ‘pouring out from the tree’ effort.
Now…off topic… but…We’ve all decided a gift that involves time together is really the best. No need to worry about fit or style. It doesn’t need to be stored, polished, cared for and then carefully displayed at the appropriate time.
Things like a wine train weekend for the 6 of us or taking them to specific concerts throughout the year. H takes S on a fishing trip and I’m taking D on a spa vacation. D and her H have gifted dinner for the 6 of us at a great local restaurant. She’s also gifted dad a fully paid trip to visit her (not a very expensive flight) and then a day at a local amusement park. She gifted me a trip to a wine country spa weekend - just the two of us. (she’s really good with the Groupon thing).
S on the other hand is just now starting his shopping. He takes after my father :). Before his work life took over he used to make beautiful art objects and wooden cutting boards. Of course it helps that we have a welder, wood working tools and too many saws to count right here in the house. I understand some people use what we call a tool shop as a place to park cars
Momocarly led me to exploring. I didn’t know what smothers & Brenton belts are. They are lovely but expensive. They do make a statement.
Also, I liked the sweaters on Kiel James Patrick site. If I hadn’t bought him a sweater already, I may have chosen one of those.
16 year old son (new graphics card to game with friends on computer) 20 year old (new timex iron man watch since it is digital…
) 25 year old (Lulu Lemon khaki pants for casual Friday and another nice golf shirt since he wears the same shirt every Friday)
I only got these suggestions after threatening them. No one ever wants anything. Other suggestions Apple ear buds, noise cancelling head phones, good socks, good underwear, new ball cap since theirs are all sweaty and gross, new work out shorts, new casual shoes since they cannot find them (they are size 14)
Went shopping today with him and he liked a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses, Johnston and Murphy slip ones and a couple of shirts. Getting there! I’m going to surprise him with the phone charger and maybe a car vacuum, p,us some books.
Klipsch wireless speakers. He’s been slowly building a decent audio rig.
