I think I am supposed to get mine today since I called admissions yesterday morning and asked about my application status. They said that my application was done being reviewed and that I should be receiving a letter soon. Because they notify through email, I assumed that it would be today or tomorrow.
I got my email ~5:30 on a Thursday, but it may be different nowadays. I’d expect it very, very soon; most of the students who have been waiting over a month for a decision have heard back in the last few days!
@PAwind98 I actually applied February 8, and they emailed me on February 17 that they couldn’t accept me into their Engineering school. They said that my app would be re-reviewed for the Dietrich school.
I called yesterday (Feb 20) and they said that they were also done reviewing me for the Dietrich school and to expect a decision soon… I expected it to come today because the notification is through email.
@exoheat11 Well, my one friend was waitlisted/Spring Admittance 2018, with worse stats than you(not atrocious, but his first 2 years weren’t too great so his gpa suffered), my other friend got accepted into Dietrich after being denied Swanson with comparable stats(I’d say slightly below yours), but keep in mind we are in-state and they submitted in August/December, respectively. Best of luck! At this point, just relax, there’s nothing to do now but hope for the best!
Everyone I know who got admitted was notified by email on a Thursday around 3:10pm and it seems to be alphabetical based on the order they got their decision after submitting mid-year grades. Still waiting and I applied in August!
@hailtopitt1787 Just wondering if decisions are ever released online during a weekend - not including mail delivery. It could take some of the stress away if we knew whether or not we could receive anything when the office is closed.
@mcc1970, We send decisions on weekdays. With snail mail, you may receive it on a Saturday depending on when USPS processes and delivers it, but email should only come on weekdays.
@hailtopitt1787 Seems like acceptances are usually emailed first and then followed up by a package a few days later. Are rejection letters hand mailed only? In other words, if no email today can we assume a rejection letter in the next few days or is it possible to receive an acceptance letter in snail mail before an acceptance email?
@h2pitt, Admitted students typically hear via email first. There are some exceptions where a letter is sent instead. No need to assume rejection if you don’t hear today - the Admissions Committee may still be reviewing your information, the email may still be in the queue, there are a number of factors. It’s hard for me to give much more information without knowing more about your specific application. Feel free to contact our office with more specific questions: 412-624-7488.
Ultimately, we do our best to get a response to you as soon as we reasonably can, typically within 3-4 weeks.
@hailtopitt1787 Thank you for hanging in with us. I’m sure you can understand our anxiety and how mentally difficult this waiting is, although it is all part of the process!
