What time does JHU start?

What time does Johns Hopkins start and end??

What’s the earliest class time?

Thanks~!

I know one person who had a class at 8:30. There may be 8:00 classes, but I have no idea what they are. The earliest class for most people would be 9:00. Latest is typically a lab or some other class that meets once a week for 3 hours. It would end at 8:50-9:00.

You know there is no set schedule. Many students elect not to take classes that start before 10:00 AM.

Many required or common classes meet exclusively at 9, so there’s not much of a choice. Of course, you don’t have to go if you don’t want to…

YanksDolphins,
“you don’t have to go if you don’t want to…”
What do you mean?? you don’t go to your required classes…?im confused…:(

I go to all my classes. But as you’ll quickly learn at any university, people don’t go to class if they don’t feel like going. Most classes don’t take attendance and professors usually don’t care if people come.

When I say required classes, I mean classes that a particular program might require. So biochemistry for BME majors or whatever.

many classes take attendance and have grades for it, but it is usually a small percentage of the overall grade (5-10%).

of course people miss/skip classes, you are given a lot of freedom in college. it’s not as if everyone had perfect attendance in high school. there is usually some leway too so missing one once in a while is no big deal (example i think biochemisty -not required for bme btw because they take a specialized bme-only biochem-like course called molecules and cells, i believe- gave full credit for 75% attendance, although attendance was taken at random days.

some courses have absolutely no attendance requirements.

other courses will literally fail you if you miss even something as low as 3-5 classes w/o a legit excuse or permission granted (mostly smaller courses like expository writing).

generally, people here work very hard and go to class. it’d be super tough to stay afloat, let alone do well, in many courses here because professors mostly test students on information and materials presented in class.

and yes, generally your first year will feature courses that start early (9am) because most intro classes start in the morning. some classes have sections (a sort of t.a.-led review time) that start at 8am like intro-level physics.

Who is John Hopkins? Is he the guy who founded this college? Or is he some random guy? Just asking. I’m curious. He sounds like someone from Hollywood lol.

John Hopkins is probably some random guy. Johns Hopkins founded the university in 1876.

What? Oh. Johns Hopkins… -.- Who is called Johns…

it’s Johns because that was his mother’s maiden name.
