What time does your family eat Thanksgiving dinner?

Was talking with a friend who has his at 7 p.m.! Wow, I was really surprised.

Our is more an 11:30 or 12 thing…we maybe sit down around 1:30 for the actual dinner. I guess i have also associated it with the daylight hours. What about all of you?

We have and make food all day. We honestly just snack and then eat whenever the meat is done- no set time. People are around all day though so the time isn’t important.

This is a sore spot with me. My family always ate around 1-2 in the afternoon, but when I had to start sharing the kids with XH and his family, his mom claimed “noonish” and I was pushed back to a late afternoon start. I know it’s ridiculous to pout, but that doesn’t stop me :frowning:

Wherever we go, main meal is probably 4 o’clock or so.

We gather around 4pm and sit down to eat around 6pm. I can’t imagine eating a big meal at noon. We are night owls.

We eat around 6:30pm; the thought of eating dinner-type food so early doesn’t appeal to us.

Around 3 or 4 pm for us. Any later and they start whining about when will it be done

Ours was 2-3pm growing up, but this year our oldest will be at her boyfriend’s for a noon meal so we opted to do a traditional dinner time of around 6pm.

I’ve always hated that the Dallas Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving Day, because that seems to dictate the meal timing quite often. We’re eating at 2:45-ish this year.

4:00 but I think that’s about an hour too late.

We always attempt to eat around 1 but, somehow we can never get our act together & it ends up being around 2.

When I was a little kid, it was an all day & night event- eating the big meal at noon & hauling out leftovers for sandwiches at night. (In between- the adults played cards & all the kids went to a movie- it was actually fun, now that I think back…)

My son is flying in from the opposite coast and landing on Thanksgiving morning. He’ll be home at maybe 10 am – I think we need to give him some time to decompress and apparently go to the high school football game. We will probably eat about 2:30 or 3.

When we get together with family – there’s up to a 3 hour drive for someone. Everyone wants to get back on the road not-too-late, so we’d eat about 2 or 3 pm.

Same as bookmom7 for me. I try to aim for 1, but pulling it all together seems to take until 2:00.

People arrive at 2 and we eat around 3.

We eat at about 4, because that’s when the bird is typically ready. I do not like to wake up too early to start the roasting process…

We have wine and shrimp cocktail at 5, then dinner at 6. That’s earlier than we usually eat in some of our households, later than some of the others eat. It’s a weekend-long feast and visit, everybody but the host has to travel, so the rest of the family is either staying at the host house or at a hotel very close by.

People show up any time from about 1 (my mom and sis who are assistant cooks) till 2/3. Dinner is planned for 4, though basically actually shows up any time between 4 and 5. This all gives me a chance to get up at a decent hour, and not cook at dawn, but not too late because my assistant cooks have a long drive home.

Thanksgiving is an all day affair in our family. About 30 years ago we started having hors d’oeuvres and champagne around 1-1:30 for “lunch” followed by some sort of outdoor activity, weather permitting. We then finish prepping the meal and sit down for the turkey etc. and wine about 6:30pm.

People show up any time after 1 for drinks and appetizers. Dinner is late afternoon, but exact timing varies depending on if/what time the Packers play.

For those of you eating at 12 or 1, I have to ask… when do you start cooking?!
