Hi, I’m an international student from Italy.
I’m writing the Common app prompt #1 and now I don’t really know what to add to make it longer.
Can you rate my essay and give me some advices where possible?

Prompt #1: Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

I was born in a family that educated me to respect and always help who is in need. All for one, one for all is our motto. We are a team made of fighters ready to battle and help each other, just like my mother says. She has worked intensely for all these years to guarantee me and my older sister a happy life. She never stopped for a moment and she often returned home tired from working all day off and out of her country. In her life she travelled a lot because of her job. That allowed her to keep an open mindset altought we live in a small city of Italy. My older sister was the first who followed her steps. She is an unstoppable little girl who built her future out of her home. She always put her top effort in everything she did and today, being out of Italy for five years now, she have accomplished her ambition that was working for the best company of her field of study.

Having these strong models in my family, I started to see travelling as something attractive that I would be able to truly feel only if I pull myself out of my city. The idea of travelling and discovering the world excited me and it suddenly became my dream. I wanted to meet new people, see new places, and go through new experiences. I feel a thrill of joy and I smile whenever I imagine myself with my backpack walking out of the airport ready to face a new adventure. At the age of 16 I already wanted to open the doors to a new world by myself.

Thus on September 2012 I left Italy and I spent a year as a foreign exchange student in Idaho where I discovered a new dimension. I felt lucky to have found a host-dad who graduated in computer engineering. I told him that I was messing with computers since elementary school and thanks to his talks I deepen my knowledge about technology. My host-dad made me realize how much this country was offering me. I admired the serenity, the friendliness and the strong values that Americans hold but Italians unfortunately dont clearly have anymore. I understood that the teachings of respect and solidarity gained from my family were the same that America offered me. The United States reflected my family and so I was happy to have found myself in another country.

Once back in Italy I clearly knew that living in America would be my dream and studying computer engineering my ambition. I realized so that my life was going to go along a path far away from my home.

Now I am determined to attend university. These next four years will be like buying a brick. My college experience will be one brick out of many that will allow me to build a tower and to return the help my parents gave me. Giving back to those who helped you, just like they taught me.
