What To Bring To Andover

<p>My Parents got the handbook, which said that students should bring a floor lamp, a small book case, maybe a smaller lamp (can’t remember) but no large furniture. I was wondering if the following items would be accepted for an Andover room and if how much is listed is too much to bring, just right, or not enough. I was also wondering if the rooms are carpeted or wood.</p>

<p>Second Smaller Fan for Bed: Is this necessary? I get hot really easily so I thought two fans would be good, but is that too much?</p>

<p>Also, do I need a chair for the desk or anything? Should I bring one or two weeks of clothing? Are there washing machines in the dorms or do most people use a laundry service? Do most people bring an extra layer of padding for their beds?</p>

<p>Whether you fly or drive to school can determine what you should bring. Remember that in June you must clear out the room. Some students use a storage service for the summer. Other students have the luxury of parents packing everything to take back home for the summer in the family SUV or van. This can help you decide whether to bring up a heavy wood book shelf or a collapsible metal book shelf. You will get a desk and a chair. My child does laundry downstairs. Bring quarters. Some students use a laundry service. A good fan may be necessary for the first couple of weeks in September and end of May, beginning of June. If you have a roommate you may end up with 2 fans for the room. My child finds the mattresses hard so a foam pad came in handy. Yes, there is carpeting, but it is more like a thin commercial carpet.</p>

<p>I recommend seeing your room before you purchase anything since all rooms are different. I never used a bookshelf so I don’t think that’s necessary. My books all fit on my desk or in one for my drawers. I also had a floor lamp that I placed next to my desk so I only needed one extra lamp. I think you’ll be fine with one fan. If you need another you can go to the store or order one online. They take up space and probably won’t be used for the majority of the school year. I brought a chair pad that was very helpful. The chairs are wood so they can get uncomfortable after a while. Kids who lived closer brought nicer desk chairs. I brought a lot of clothing because I don’t like doing laundry. Most kids will wear their jeans several times before they wash them, so take that into account. Most kids used the laundry machines in the dorms. More guys seemed to use the laundry service than girls. If you decide to get the laundry service look closely at the options. E and R likes to dry clean things that don’t need to be. They also have a tendency to mix things up so don’t send them anything of value. Definitely bring a mattress pad. The mattresses are the college/plastic type and are quite hard.</p>
